The British Monarchy

Plus a lot of 'pro' footballers are on low and minimum wages, especially the younger lads who coud be down the road in spring.

Some people are clueleess about reality.

I don't think Kaz is clueless about reality. TBF to her, I think I may have jumped in half way through the conversation and picked up a point maybe she wasn't making?

Whether you agree with the monarchy or not the conversation needs to be had after this period of mourning about how we go forward. Whether the mass redundancy is a sign of what is to come who knows, but there remains a question mark over what is viable. If we are all tightening our belts then why not the royals, cutting back on the amount of the numbers of mouths to feed has to be a starting point.

Yes.
A politician as head of state? No fucking way.
A celeb as head of state? Again, no fucking way.
Stick with a monarch but gradually move more to more of a Dutch/Swedish model.

Democracy is actually a relatively mad concept because do the people really know what they want? Look at how politics has evolved over the last 10 years and that's all in the name of democracy. The folk who slag this government off everyday on here seem to forget that it's their fellow country folk who put them there.

The anger around all of that just proves that nobody wants democracy anyway, they just want their form of democracy and it's just tolerance of opinion that is really falling apart. When tolerance falls apart you end up with some kind of anarchy resulting in lunatics like Trump in charge which is where the US is probably going again.

The only balancer between relatively dodgy people or lunatics getting their way is something above that like the monarchy. In the US they split the presidency, congress and house of representatives for a reason.... It otherwise would only take one crazy president and it all goes to pot and that's why Russia is in the mess it is.

It's an odd one really, you'll find many who are highly in favour of the monarchy and many who want rid of the royal family but you'll always find far more who are fully in favour of burning Parliament down.... That's where we are...
Absolutely but I find discussions on here are about policy and not party. voting is a private matter but governments fall by their policies the refugees trying to get to England in a dingy I could never vote for, forcibly removing them is wrong in my view. They see the Queen and think “that looks a great place to live” until they get here and find themselves back on a plane to ??

You could say Putin only invaded Ukraine because he thought NATO wouldn’t help. The withdrawal from Afghanistan gave him the green light.
Trump trying to bring down the election and Boris partying if the Queen wanted too I’m sure she could step in let it be known and Charles would There is a letter in the archives ? something he didn’t agree with I can’t remember what it was probably Architecture or plant’s

Mike they already got rid of the Royal yacht Britannia and the Royal train, she came back from Edinburgh on a C 14 troop carrier, this afternoon an ancient gun carriage and they walked behind the procession and didn’t waste any petrol
Mass redundancy would happen if they sacked all the cooks cleaners etc it would be thousands on the dole from all the people employed in the Royal business it’s an industry in itself gardeners it’s everything.

Our local doctors surgery is closing on Monday out of respect for the Queen. Respect for her but fuck those needing medical attention.

My local is closing on Monday. Things have just gone too far now.

Time to abolish the Monarchy!
Joking aside, it does feel like this whole thing has been handled pretty badly, by business in particular. The Center Parcs fiasco is obviously the best/worst example, but numerous companies have been falling over themselves to show their subservience in a weird mawkish way. Ironically, it could ultimately be more damaging to the monarchy than they imagine. Feels like the public are starting to see the absurdity of it all.

Until a few years i was a full on left winger , still am on many issues, but despise the modern woke pc labour party, many of whom despise the monarchy, they are wrong about virtually everything, so i am now a full on constitutional monarchist. God save the king.

The class of ‘22 strikes again.

I wonder when the radicalisation of the university of life graduates online will become an academic study.

With all this closing down of public services and businesses I'm wondering if the greedy vets are staying open just in case somebody needs some 95 quid eardrops for Sooty the poodle.

Genuine question:
Is there a reason they could'nt have this funeral at weekend ?

I think they would have held it on the Saturday had she died on the Wednesday, but there is the 10 day mourning protocol to observe.

Funerals very rarely happen on Sundays in the U.K.

They probably wanted to make her funeral day a bank holiday for posterity too.

Always thought the Irish way was better, get them in the ground ASAP and give the poor family some closure.
