The British Monarchy

I like that we have the Royal Family. It's what makes us interesting as a nation and it probably brings tourists over. Just watch the funeral Monday and the coronation and tell me the rest of the world won't be watching. I imagine it'll be broadcast in every corner of the world. There will be millions of people come over in the next few years to visit the Kings home now and buy merchandise etc. It's akin to City keeping Aguero after he retired, but wheeling him out for big games to sign shirts etc. Doesn't do much but is great for tradition.

As long as they keep modernising but keeping the pomp and tradition i'm in.

We've had them for around a 1000 years. I think that's tradition enough.

I'm sick of idiots talking about slavery- we abolished it - yes we did participate in it - but didnt start it, and FACT there's 30 million slaves world-wide today, a lot built the Qatar stadiums some will go to this winter - we ABOLISHED slavery, our tiny little island has done FAR more good than bad, and I'm pissed off with apologising - we are the most liberal easy going country in the world - queue for fucking everything - pat yourself on the back kids, and get some wind in the sails - sick of the woke world. god save the king.

It should have another option added? Do you want all the hangers on or just Old Charles and his immediate family? The taxes that we pay for that lot?

Is the monarchy and parliament’s regulation of succession , not in fact sectarian and the 1700 Act of Settlement at the route of a world of trouble within the kingdom over 300 years later.
( Having read excerpts of it, I could arguably add, racist, perhaps)

Just asking for a friend.

Discuss.
The Bill of Rights 1688 is the root of the true religion doctrine. Catholics were barred from the crown and the monarch must swear to uphold the true (Protestant) religion.

Keep the pomp and ceremony and please get rid of the hangers on, including the old duffers on a good screw in the house of lords.

You do know we only abolished it because we'd over farmed our plantations in the caribean so the slaves weren't as much use to us anymore? Was also a good excuse to attack and rob loads of Spanish ships, something we were really good at. It wasn't altruism. If the British Empire had been altruistic it would never have become as powerful as it was.

I said yes but reform of royalty and government is needed. We need to bring back powers so that the King can stick cunts like Johnson in the tower if required. No point in having a head of state if all they can do is wear fancy uniforms. If he is serious about upholding national values then he needs some teeth.

edit. Some of that is not entirely serious. Except the need for a shake up that is.

I don’t like this habit of starting posts with “you do know that etc.” It is patronising and says “you are ignorant but my superior knowledge will put you right.”
Ban it.

After the ever so slightly loopy James 2nd iirc.

What puzzles me is that Catholics get all worked up about a protestant having to be a protestant to be monarch when the Pope is definitely a Catholic and he was/is King of Kings in regards to Catholic countries.

Kings are chosen by God (Or so they say) and the Pope was the main guy dishing out the crowns and land.

The constitutional monarchy is the worst form of government ever invented, apart from all the others. So it's a yes from me in full knowledge of it's downsides.

Monarchy's and religion are similar in if you look to deeply into the why's then you either end up a atheist/republican or you just give up within a miunute and accept what you are told. Both rely on a majority of the latter.

I pickied indifferent in the poll as I accept there are enough brain dead idiots in the coutry that to dispense with them would possibly be a detrimental step.

Just out of interest, would people have this view if we were actually allowed to know her opinions?

what if she was a Boris loving pro Brexit covid denier kind of lady?

the reason everyone loves her is because she stayed neutral on all matters
Then whats the point in them, if they are so neutral?

I’ve a feeling that the ban on Catholic monarchs has been abolished. Can’t remember details though.
