Re: Where would Celtic with current team finish in other lea
Weird thing in Ireland is that many of the Celtic fans aren't even there for the football. I know the chairman of one Celtic Supporters Club quite well and he told me that whilst most members do actually want to get together and travel over for games etc, there's a considerable percentage of gobshites (his word) that just want to get hammered when they meet up for televised matches and then round the day off with a Wolfe Tones sing-a-long and the inevitable attempt at a fight with their own shadow. They're trying to weed them out and they've fucked some of them off but what can they do when they're meeting in a public house and the publican serves them?
Christ alone knows why anybody would put up with that shite just to endure what is largely less entertaining football than the League of Ireland that's actually being played on their own doorstep but for some reason, guys like him are hooked on Celtic. And let's face it, the odd freak result (such as the double over Barca, a while ago) aside, it's nearly forty years since Celtic had a team capable of competing with Europe's best.
Celtic would do better than most on here think they would because home advantage and sheer enthusiasm would have to be worth a significant start to them. They wouldn't win the Dutch or Portuguese leagues by any stretch but neither would they be relegated as summarially as some around here are suggesting. In short, they'd struggle in the biggest leagues, hold their own without pulling up any trees in the second tier leagues (Holland, Sweden Portugal, France etc) and be cock of the walk in the many lesser leagues (Ireland x 2, Wales, Scotland, to name but four).
stony said:The Scottish Prem is on a par with the Danske Bank Prem. The main difference being most people in Scotland support Celtic or Rangers, whereas most people in Ireland support the rags or dippers.
