Hate to disappoint you fella but British English also used the word 'fall' up until the 17th century. The yanks simply decided to continue using the word 'fall' instead of 'autumn' which the British took from the French, 'Automne'.Tradition. Every tradition in England being Americanised, pisses me right off.
Just waiting for Autumn to be renamed the fall and that's me done.
Probably the best days of your life too! When you play spurs or Liverpool I’m the biggest City fan there is
I don't remember them pal, you must have been posh.Anyone remember those little cellophane fish found in crackers that curled up in your hand...or is that just the product of some weird fever dream I've had?
Same applies to the word 'gotten' which appears numerous times in Shakespeare. It just fell out of favour here until recently.Fall (of the leaf) is just something that American usage has preserved. It was commonly used in England until the 17th Century, but ‘autumn’ had arrived from Europe and muscled its way into the language.
haha I remember them, came in lucky bags, as far from posh as you can possibly get :)I don't remember them pal, you must have been posh.
