The changing face of Christmas

You've just really ruined my christmas now lol.

Going up to Scotland boxing day (or St Stephen's day) for hogmanay this year should get me over it
If I'm honest mate, it pissed me off too when I found out. It's getting so there's nothing a cantankerous bastard can moan about! Enjoy anesthetising yourself at Hogmanay.

Ah yes, I remember it well when Christmas was actually about Christmas.
We’ve celebrated at this time of year on this island for thousands of years. Long before the Christ people made up a religion and bastardised all the long standing Northern European festivals into their new Christian calendar, changing all of their dates over the years to fit into our calendar and make it easier for us to convert to Christianity.

Cheers pal.
You have good one

A lot of American words are just old English, obviously spoken words like aluminium and solder are something our American brethren still can't get their huge veneered teeth around ;)
Fun fact. The word 'Aluminium' was adopted by the British in 1812 after the person responsible for naming the new element, Sir Humphrey Davy' had originally decided upon 'Aluminum' in 1807. Also, 'solder' is pronounced by Americans as 'sauder' simply because that's how it was pronounced in the UK at the time early settlers came to the USA.
