Good to read peoples posts on here reminiscing, as I have always liked a bet, I can still see my old man glued to the itv six every saturday when I was a kid, cursing or cheering, woodbine in hand, so I blame him.
I have always been a small stakes big odds sort of punter 20pwin or e/w lucky 15/31 with a 50p e/w acc on top, depending on odds, had some nice touches too. Done the same type of bets for thirty odd years without raising my stake much, although I will back singles if I am confident.
Over the years I have had long breaks from betting and am quite comfortable with where Im at gambling wise, getting a bet on used to be logistically difficult at times when you had to go the bookies, probably bet less nowadays despite it being so easy to bet on the internet.
Anyway, have had a few winners this week in multiple bets, but was perusing the last today, I was waiting on Mister Coffey as it was my last selection in an e/w lucky 31 with the previous four runners having lost, placed, won, and placed. So thought I would have an outsider to add more interest, and lo and behold up pops Chambard at 40/1, only had £1 e/w but Mister Coffey finished second too which has definitely put me up so far.
Ihave always preferred the cavalry charge type handicap race to bet on, full of familiar names and big prices paying first four/five e/w, so backing that last winner was no surprise really.
Racing is a mugs game for some, and there are many who look down on the cloth capped old punter in the bookies type of thing, but it can also be a great hobby too if you keep it sensible, with the added bonus of maybe winning some serious money.
I have had dealings through work(building) with people involved in racing too which has created interest for me occasionally with "information" good and bad, Some good racing based stories too.
Off now to look at fridays runners, hope to find a few "dark horses" that no one else has in the tipster comp lol.
