The Colston Four

Fucking hell. Where angels fear to tread she goes in with both feet. What law needs clarifying?

They were deemed to have broken the law. Put on trail but acquitted based on evidence and testimony- seems like it’s working to me.
Agree. End off.
Accept to say, you should not complain about a system that has done us proud for a 100 years because you don't like one verdict.

Yeah but not how they want it to work - I mean whats the point of a dictatorship if you can't dictate?

Dictatorship might be a bit of a stretch but I can see where your coming from, there does indeed seem to be a lack of appreciation for due process from some quarters. And it’s not isolated to one or two instances or individuals.

the only people dreaming are those who think they can rewrite the past and pretend it never happened, Tearing down statues reminding us of such a past is one of the few public reminders we have left, and given the lack of education and thought displayed in pulling down the message is clearly lost on a subset of society who somehow thinks its retribution, when it's nothing of the sort.

And a police station attacked in the following protests which got out of hand, police vans set alight. If it was on the end of Kaz's Street would she be so tolerant?
You have to seperate those who toppled the statue, the police stood back and let them and the BLM hardcore who attacked the police van and those protesting about the right to protest before lecturing me

They didn't even happen in the same year. It is such an odd link to make.

Where's the lecture in what I said? If the police had waded in when the statue was toppled they would have been vilified. Just because they stood back doesn't make what those four did right

I am aware of that but by committing the crime then you are running that risk.

Judge’s are where they are because they’re highly intelligent, I doubt a judge would throw the book at someone for chucking a statue of a slave trader in a river.
A bit naive.

Judges too can be Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

"When people get caught up and act out of character, in a similar way, there is a danger that the courts themselves may get caught up in a different kind of collective hysteria - I'm not suggesting violence or anything like that - but in purporting to reflect the public mood actually go over the top and hand out sentences which are too long and too harsh."

But this is a double negative.

The jury has to give the wrong verdict because the judge might be a bigot.

Not a good basis for law and order.

If the judge might be a bigot, the more reason to acquit.

Plenty of politically-motivated judges. Remember the Law Lord who likened Ken Livingstone to General Galtieri for trying to subsidise public transport?

Its nothing to do with the item, it is about wanton damage being allowed to go unpunished.

Why are you really arsed though, really?

Loads of stuff goes unpunished, some people get away with vile crimes, there is a shit ton of injustice right across the world.

A few young people dunked a statue of a **** and the jury, after hearing all the evidence and testimony, found them not guilty; I'm happy enough with that and certainly not losing any sleep over it.

Life goes on.
