The Conservative Party

It's bollocks isn't it?

Tory ministers trying to out flag each other. It'll end up getting to the point Patel flashes her Union flag pants on politics live.

It’s virtue signalling and identity politics on steroids.

To me it comes across as weakness and insecurity, but it keeps the Daily Telegraph mob happy.

Dont get the problem with a government anywhere in the world being filmed or pictured with the national flag to be honest?

Its pretty standard behaviour the world over.

It's a debate for another thread.

I personally think it's imported Yankee bollocks.

It's a political tool which magically appeared as soon as we left the EU to try and get jingoistic patriotism not seen since WW2 revived.

I think it is the fact they have carted them to their houses or shoved them in the background of their offices in the most ridiculous way.

Plus it isn't normal for them to do it, they have just started to do it, so seems out of place or forced unlike the ausies, french, germans who have done it for years.

If they had started doing it 5/5/7 years ago when interviewed from cabinet offices no one would have noticed, peole notice now because they have just started to do it.

Agree its a new phenomenon to see ministers offices decked out with the Union Jack but be it the USA or Sudan or Australia to the EU, we see interviews being done with their respective flags and always have done.

Its really not a big deal as far as i am concerned but would tend to agree that is is a very deliberate new look.

It’s for a different thread but you’ve been concerned about it since Wednesday last week.

As @leeneel has said, nation’s flags are used all around the world, by governments of respective countries and the use of the Union flag by the Union’s government bothering people is just about as pathetic as the insinuation it’s jingoism.

I get the left don’t like Britain but fuck me, it’s just a flag lads, get over it.

How can it still be an appropriate flag when it still has elements of a historic flag of a nation that has left the union(Ireland), and doesn't have any elements of a nation that remains in the union (Wales)?

A remnant of colonialism.

Time for a new flag me thinks.

Just put a big red dragon across the middle of the Union flag - at least Wales is then represented.
