The Conservative Party

You'd think the Tories are trying to kill off their so called older former working class voters...

so short sighted ........all that will mean people might not get their prescriptions or ration them thus become sick and lead to a greater ( more expensive ) burden on the NHS
I don’t think they care about that at all. It serves the longer term goal of reducing and reducing the list of things you can rely on the NHS for/ the people who can rely on it, so there’s less and less pushback against its underfunding and continuing piecemeal privatisation. No British government can ever say ‘we will get rid of the NHS’, but what they’ve discovered in the last decade is you can quite easily destroy it bit by bit.

The government said it could not find time to legislate to extend the legislation for councils to hold virtual meetings, but they did find time to legislate to exempt UEFA “guests” from quarantine for the Wembley finals.

Nasty party at it again

Ministers are considering raising the age people are eligible to get free prescriptions by six years to claw back cash for the NHS.

People over 60-years-old are currently able to avoid prescription charges in England, with exemptions also applying to anyone under 16 or teenagers in higher education.

The Government has launched a consultation on whether to raise the cut-off point to 66-years-old in line with the state pension age
Seems reasonable to me.
The point of it being free is because you aren’t working/more likely to need prescription.
People are working longer/living longer.
Sensible area to save some money to be spent elsewhere.
Of course we could just Chuck as much money as we can at everything and anything and let the national debt get worse and worse
