The Conservative Party

So the person who was self evidently the least shit option during the last leadership election will now become the leader. But in the interim about 81,000 people decided that indulging in a bit of casual racism and childish revenge for the downfall of their beloved fat bastard leader was worth putting an imbecile in charge who managed to tank the economy tout suite. So I reckon each one of those 81,000 owes the country at least £800,000. Not sure how we are going to collect it from them but whatever format it takes it should be known as the fuckwit tax.
That sounds about right

Why do the Tories insist they know that the public don't want a GE and say what we really want is for a united Tory party?

The people who were clambering for Johnson to come back are now saying Sunak has no mandate and must call a snap election. They weirdly weren’t saying that when Truss got the gig.

Well, at least if he takes revenge and gives none of them a job, Sunak won't be missing out on a lot of "talent".

True, but I doubt he'll be looking for revenge - the current cabinet is Truss'.

I think Trevelyan and Wallace will stay on, it would be pretty risky to actively eject those two as they're inoffensive mostly and it's an unneeded distraction to do so. Cleverly may also be kept for a while, although Foreign Sec has been neutralised over the last 10 years. Sharma is irrelevant, just as COP26 is proving to be.

Clarke and Mogg will likely go in fairly short order, although he may let Clarke stew in the Levelling Up fiasco for a while. Mogg will likely be furious when Sunak restates that fracking is suspended.

Policies often react to events - only ideological policies don’t but they are always curbed by realities and realities are driven by events.

By your reckoning Labours cost of living policy is not a policy then. You should probably let them know.

Not too sure all policies are driven by events....Labour provided (for example ... the list is not exhaustive)

Free TV licences to over 75s
Free eye tests for the over 60s
Free admission to Museums & galleries
Free prescriptions for cancer patients
Free bus passes for the over 60s
Freedom of Information Act

Obviously not policies that benefited everyone but not driven by events either.

For balance Blair and Labour supported the invasion of Iraq and intervention in Afghanistan which unleashed massive instability in the region which exists to this day and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. I'm not a Tory or a supporter of that party but Labour in its current guise is not the solution to this country's problems but then neither are the Tories.

Imagine the utter hell of being stuck next to a guy like this in a pub....
The disgraceful shame of it is that this guy is far from being on his own with his astonishing racist views that simply make me put my head in my hands and wonder when will it stop. As Bob Marley said ( quoting HGS - I think ) - “ until the colour of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes there’ll be war”

should be worth a watch at 2.30pm - I saw a tweet the other day where someone who claimed to have done her teacher training alongside him that he was the thickest, laziest least able "teacher" she had ever seen. I'd imagine he will be so poor it will give Sunak ample reason to sack him

He wants to fix our country ? ..... they've had twelve years.
It's like when I used to dismantle me Dad's radios without permission and then claim I could put them back together. He would clip me round the ear and just take the bits off me because despite my protestations he knew I was talking through my arse.

True .... probably for another thread ...but the info was (supposedly ) provided by a ''trusted'' ally. Had the enterprise been successful (as was Labours intervention in Sierra Leone in 2000) and the information proven to be correct then it would have been hailed as a great achievement....

We now know it wasn't.

Because they know they would lose - possibly very badly
Agree. They know the public overwhelmingly would want a GE now, but what the Tories are saying is they don't want one because, as you say, they would be wiped out

I'd love a respected journalist to say, how exactly do you know the public don't want a GE.

I’m guessing Atlee and Heath. Although didn’t Wilson fit with that first time round? In any event that is such a damning indictment of our system. Shameful, actually.

How can anybody even try and defend it after the last few weeks?

Exactly that and yes, Wilson first time round would count too.

As you say, it’s a pretty shocking stat though!
