actually I remember things like the rust scandals of cars like Moskvich, Lancia and FIAT. The former two were withdrawn from the UK markets whereas FIATs got proper body protection and a 6 year body warranty so in the end they spearheaded the body protection movement. When I met my Mrs I had an UNO and she had a crusty Fiesta - the usual train of thought back in 1992 was FIATs rotted and Fords were great. My UNO never gave me any trouble, never rusted and eventually passed into her hands when its wings became as frilly as net curtains the door bottoms rusted out and it became a bastard to start in the wet

Thats because Wilsons Government introduced tariffs on imported goods made with a foreign manufactured steel over a certain thickness.... this was done as a protectionist measure to preserve the UK steel industry . As a result foreign cars would become uncompetitive . As a response the italian manufacturers reduced the thickness of steel in their cars which inevitably led to rust problems. 9It also led to the withdrawal of Lancia from the UK car market.

The comment that he didn't go to the media yesterday morning because he was 'upset' by the Stratton video and wanted Johnson to have the chance to address it was strange. It was picked up on immediately - why is the Health Minister too upset to speak by a video of others?

Surely he could have issued a statement on Tuesday night/Wednesday early to the effect that the video was awful and to avoid it overshadowing any health stuff that he had to say, he was delaying his stuff for a day? Of course, he may not realised that he was 'upset' at the time, and therefore had no excuse to offer.
