The Conservative Party

On the vaccine rollout, why the 200k deaths - amongst the worst death rates in the world?
FYI Starmer was cleared following two police investigations and by the way he promised to resign had he received a fine whereas BloJo didn't.
You are of course entitled to your opinion on Starmer's 'innocence' or otherwise, but it's irrelevant.
You can argue all night about the efficacy of the vaccine itself, but the pace of the rollout was undeniably faster than practically any other country, and I think it’s naive to suggest that No10 had no bearing on that.

Again, I’m not a fan of Johnson, but the vaccine rollout was a success during his time as PM.

What about the death rates?

So let me get this right. If the Bank of England had not of stepped in today I could of lost all the money in my private pensions totaling nearly £30K?

Should I be worried for the future?

Yes, but remember it’s important we give tax incentives to the mega rich and a few cabinet Ministers were able to take short positions on the pound so they will be happy.

Cummings should have been fined too. But the whole nonsense about forgetting that Rayner was at the Durham event as well just highlights the hypocrisy of it all.
It doesn’t, because the rules were different in different areas.

Cummings probably should have been fined, but it’s a while back now and I can’t remember what the rules were at that time. It was in the first lockdown thoug, which was far more serious as we were limiting contact to buy scientists time to develop a vaccine.

If Starmer had been PM then we wouldn’t have pursued our own vaccine development, and the rollout would subsequently have been slower.

So even if you don’t want to attribute any positive contribution to Johnson, the fact that he had a different view from Starmer meant that the speed of the rollout was faster.

As for the Durham thing, Durham police did have a different view from me, but he was lucky to avoid being fined given the evidence presented by several people who attended the curry and beer, sorry, work event.
Why wouldn’t we? Oxford University already had the basis for that vaccine and naturally they pursued its development for this virus. As for the rollout, we were six weeks ahead of comparable countries in the EU and they had caught up before Delta hit in the summer so it made absolutely no difference. Whether we would have been ahead had there been a different PM is impossible to know but I suspect PPE, Care homes and test & trace would have been managed much better with far less waste and preventable deaths.

The evidence was clearly sufficient to demonstrate Starmer’s beer and curry were not illegal in spite of the ludicrous Daily Mail campaign.

Nice attempt at whataboutery.
Nothing to do with whataboutery, which I must say is a rather lazy thing to throw into a debate. Johnson was rightly fined, Cummings should have been fined and disciplined if not fired by Johnson, and the same standards should apply to others who had beer and curry evenings during a lockdown.

In particular I still wonder why it took the Labour Party, and indeed Rayner herself, so long to recollect that she was in fact also at the Durham booze-up if there was never a problem with what they did that night.
