Bills of £5,000 per annum plus are unaffordable ..At least for the six months from April it will be much easier to keep the heating off.

What escapes me at the moment is that the mini-budget, although the Govt prefers to call it something else, didn't go to full cabinet, it was put in front of ten or so ministers. Why haven't the whole ten fucked off including the vacuous Lizzie?

Problem is who do you tax more to make up the shortfall ? The very wealthy have the means to avoid it, if you then put the burden on the middle rate tax payers then they will need to pay significantly more tax as there are considerably less in the 40% bracket.I have no idea on the impact of this, but anyone earning under 20k should pay 0 taxes on their earnings.
To me the fairest way would be to increase VAT on non essentials and in particular luxury products. You are then taxing those more with the highest disposable income.
Of course the other obvious one is increasing capital gains tax in line with income tax, which again would be a progressive move.
