The Conservative Party

delusional

The unasked question is "Do you think all migrants should stop in the first safe country they come to?".

"Would you think that if you were a politician in Italy, Spain or Greece?"

"Would you think that if the UK had a border with an unsafe country?"

More levelling up...

Research by the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (SIGOMA) has revealed that between 2010/11 and 2023/24, the 10% of local authorities with the highest levels of deprivation faced funding cuts averaging 28.3% - while the 10% of councils with the lowest levels of deprivation faced funding cuts averaging 10.1%. Cllr Sir Steve Houghton, leader of Barnsley Council and chair of SIGOMA, warns that the "gap between the rich and the poor is getting wider", while the Government has reneged on a promise to reallocate business rates. "It looks like a political decision to support areas that are better off as opposed to areas that are worse off", he said, "In terms of levelling up, it's exactly the opposite, it's levelling poor areas down as they are not getting the funding they would have done."

No shit Sherlock.

Something Labour have already said they will keep.

Where do we put asylum applicants whilst they are going through the process?

Genuine question btw if you have better alternatives?

It's 500 people though, more than that arrive in a single day sometimes.

Would need about another 100 barges to clear the backlog.

It’s 500 in a safe environment, not on the streets.

If you have a better idea as to where we house these people whilst going through the process I’m all ears?

You do have a better idea don’t you?

Thats not clearing the backlog though is it? Thats just putting people somewhere else than a hotel. Clearing the backlog means dealing with asylum cases and that is something they have just passed legislation that says they will not do any of that at all. So in theory the year is 2150 and the Tory Govt has just commissioned its one millionth barge to house migrants at a total cost of £2bn per day ....... but still the Travelodge at Tamworth has no migrants in it but on the flipside it closed down 15 years ago due to lack of income.

How about hiring the staff to do the work that's required to reduce the backlog as opposed to pulling bullshit stunts that are only there to keep people arguing on twitter? Simple basic competence, but I appreciate that's asking an enormous amount of this current government.

I wasn't arguing that point.

Of course Hotels are costly and unsustainable in the long run, It's just frustrating how the Tories have handled all this. They've had 13 years in power and made the process slower and longer.
