A modern army has no need for a mass of unskilled conscripts, most of whom would have no desire whatever to be there.

That's apart from the fact that a) It would be an utterly pointless increase in public expenditure and b) it removes from the workforce (at a time when we are short of workers!) some of the youngest, fittest and most moderately paid workers, thereby damaging productivity and increasing industry costs.

This is just red meat for red-faced bigots, the majority of whom, ironically, escaped conscription themselves.

Not sure why you’ve posted this.
Everybody knows we work closely and coordinate with the Americans.
It doesn’t change the fact that we have an operationally independent nuclear deterrent that ultimately is controlled by the UK. It is highly unlikely that we would not coordinate with the US in their deployment however that doesn’t mean we are operationally reliant on them and can’t make our own decisions.
