The Conservative Party

The EU has dramatically changed in our 40 year membership, it’s all your side bang on about and one of the few things you’re correct on.
If you watch that Yes Minister clip posted a few pages back you'll see just how much the present resembles the past.
The left aren’t wary of the EU generally speaking because it doesn’t look anything like it did in the 1970’s.
The 70s is exactly where Jezzer is now.

I don’t wish to speak for @The perfect fumble but I would imagine he likes the EU because it represents the best of capitalism, in a world almost entirely capitalist.

I would also imagine he believes the EU can be steered further to the left.
The majority of EU countries are also a lot further left on the spectrum than the UK.

That's why the EU is doomed. When it can't afford to dish out the booty extracted from us the reckoning won't be long in coming.

Wasn't your point something to do with national self harm? Jezzer is very relevant to that surely?

No, it was that the left haven’t become wary of the EU over the last 40 years because the EU is totally different now than it was in the 1970’s.

but my point was that isn't the case, the EU isn't totally different and neither is the left. Jezzer et al are still exactly where Benn left them, it's just those outside the leadership hub that need to be educated.

Focus on the last line of the post and reply to it, forget the typo in the middle.

It's not the typo, this question.....

"Ask yourself why Jeremy and John hate them all so much?"

Well, the answer is self evidently obvious, Tusk and Junker are right wingers, Christian Democrats/Tories in either name or as good as damn it. The EU they represent locks us into a form of corporate/bureaucratic capitalism that denies member states the freedom to decide their own economic future.

Everyone knows this.

It's the other stuff that's bat shit bonkers.

I don't nurse any hope that the EU can be reformed, but given the rampant nature of globalisation, the corporatist, bureaucratic, faint social democratic tinge of the EU feels like a roaring log fire.

LOL... Yeah, I got that.

Blimey, my reputation proceeds me!

Why don’t you take a bigger leap of faith? If the people succeed in getting rid of one establishment in the EU they may get a taste for it. I want rid of the political elite for different reasons but getting change for either of us needs to start with something. You think a brexit will mean full fat capitilism as a direction we go in but it needn’t if the people grow a pair.
