Wishing it was 1950 (when there were also bad parents and deprived kids) does not cut it. But I do believe it taps into the nostalgia of many social conservatives, who hanker after an imagined golden age. No brown people, no divorce, mothers staying at home. Even if you started down that road, it's entirely impracticable and would not solve the problem anyway.

Well, he did ‘think more fundamentally about this’ before labelling them as ‘crap parents’
If that’s the extent of his thinking fundamentally, and he has a majority of only 105, he seems to have accepted that he’s out.
