A while back I was reading something about the possible link between quality of parenting and the uptick of beh
avioural problems with adolescent kids. Think it might have been the Nuffield Foundation; anyway one of its, perhaps counter intuitive, conclusions was that the 'level' of parenting had actually improved overall and without that we'd be even deeper in the shit than we already are!

The problem for any parent these days is that thanks to the level of connectedness we now have, the range of influences and forces and pressures, perceived and real, that you have to deal with when parenting have multiplied massively.

Once upon a time not that long ago a tiny proportion of people were employed in trying to influence our behaviour on a day to day basis. Now half the fuckers on the planet, including some of the brightest people out there, are directly involved in jobs trying to manipulate us in real time. Technology has turned entire populations into lab rats with no idea what the consequences are. So I'd probably agree about the dystopian joy ride!
