The Conservative Party

What is emerging re the awarding of contracts for PPE is disgusting. It's enough to bring down the PM and his government.

No excuses.

One of the most frustrating things is how long the press has just sat on it. This should have been the main story running for the past four months and you’re absolutely right, it should be enough to bring down the government. It won’t though, one reason being the changes in the law they implemented at the start of the pandemic that allowed them to bypass a lot of the standard checks and balances.

There should have been alarm bells even then. It’s why I hate this government more than any in my lifetime. It’s not the policies per se (we’ve had plenty of cunts before), it’s the way they’re implementing them by changing some of our core foundations, constitutions and rules of law.

What they’ll do is criticise the speculation and avoid talking about it at all. Initially it was “it’s a pandemic, we’ve got to do everything possible”, then it was “now’s not the time for scrutiny, that can come after” and now it will be “that’s in the past, we’ve got to focus on the future”.

They cannot be allowed to get away with it, not by the press nor us. We’re already going to be paying for the impact of the pandemic for years to come, that’s bad enough without also having to pay for them to line each other’s pockets.

Thundercunts.

We sure are in a fucked up situation. The Grenfell enquiry find the company that manufactured and supplied the insulation material for Grenfell that caught fire and produced highly toxic smoke falsified the safety tests on it so it passed. They did this deliberately and deceitfully, marketing it as fire safe. Can't blame the Government for that one but another example of the malaise that seems to be infecting the nation. Try finding reports of that in the Mail btw.

Don’t worry. At least we’ll all be protected from any potential invasion.

Let me guess, a tory owned fabric company set up in 2019 with no prior experience in manufacturing or producing large volume will win a whopping contract to supply new uniforms? A tory owned lawn mower company will now be awarded contracts for producing tanks? A tory owned handbag manufacturer to make webbing?

Where the fuck has all the money for this come from? I’m all for spending more on defence and we’ve neglected the armed forces for far too long, but to suddenly find this amount on top of everything we’ve found for the pandemic is baffling to me. Just don’t get what’s going on.

It's over 4 years, I think, so the headline figure of 16 billion is misleading.

Increasing our national debt from 80% of GDP to over 100%.

Seems that in normal times it would be anathema for a Tory government to unnecessarily increase borrowing but if it's got to happen anyway due to an exceptional event like a pandemic, the current government do not appear to be averse to adding a bit more on to line the pockets of their mates while they think no one's looking.

Totally the tories fault. Recommendations for the removal of cladding (after the Lakanel House fire) sat on a Tory ministers (Gavin Barwell) desk for years with ,as usual, nothing being done.
