The Conservative Party

Extended to where exactly, seeing as the trams from Blackpool already terminate at Fleetwood.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

Some have suggested that instead of reinstating the Poulton-Fleetwood heavy rail link it would be more cost-effective to rum trams from Fleetwood to Poulton and have some sort of interchange at the junction. The extension would be to extend the existing tram service south from Fleetwood.

But its nostalgia that's what this is all about Brexit is all about one big trip memory lane, rebuilding the empire showing them that old blighty is a force to reckoned. These railways being reopened will do nothing for the economy, a few wet dreams for some old crusty train spotters. Its all about perception making it look like they are doing something like this nonsense on Australian points system because immigrants are forcing wages down (which is a total lie) But who cares we have a shit old Victorian railway system falling apart. But good Old Boris can bang on about reopening railway lines closed down by his party in the 60's and the fuckwits will lap it up.

Passenger use of the rail system has more than doubled over past 20 years and is now at capacity on key routes.

Apart from meeting extra demand driven by population and economic growth we can't meet our net zero by 2050 commitment unless we invest in additional rail capacity.

The Fleetwood line (amongst others) was closed by a Labour Government in 1970.

This comment about our "Victorian" rail system is pretty silly (unless you also are happy to describe driving on the A1 as using a Roman road system).

I agree passenger use has doubled

The decision to close the Fleetwood line was made earlier by a conservative government during the Beechwood reforms. It could have been reversed but it could have also been reversed by Heath when he came into power in 1970's (but let's not split hairs about the last bit)

It is a Victorian system when parts of the system are only able to run non electrical trains?

A modern railway system is able to run modern day trains across its entirerity

I agree with that but unfortunately electrification on some routes will never make financial sense (e.g. lines in far north Scotland or mid Wales, or Settle-Carlisle).

However, on some routes there might be other options, such as introducing diesel/battery hybrids or (in future) hydrogen powered trains.

e.g. From 2021 Transport for Wales are introducing diesel/battery hybrid trains on the Borderlands route (Wrexham-Bidston on the Wirral). These will be former London tube trains that are completely refurbished. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_230#Transport_for_Wales

Merseyrail are apparently looking at potentially using similar technology to extend the existing service that currently runs to Ellesmere Port to extend the service down to Helsby on the Chester-Warrington line.

Typical Tory gimmickry to cover their lies....

They fill the hole where policy should be with bullshit like this, this is just the beginning folks! It's non-stop spin from here on in.

They've done alright on spin so far.
Seems to be the way things work these days.

I agree however, you can expect a lot more similar one-liners.

Ok I see what you meant - as someone who lives in the area either would be a major undertaking even allowing for the fact that the track-bed still exists from Thornton to Poulton but some of the route towards Fleetwood has since been built over.

What could possibly go wrong ? handing over your infrastructure to a country you know will wage war at some point in the future ......................oh wait
I actually don't really disagree massively with them on what they have done, they haven't given access to essential core parts of the network apparently.

I also do think there's a lot of fear mongering over the Chinese from the Americans over Huawei
