The Conservative Party

Are we seriously agreeing with deporting people who came here as children, really?

I get supporting your ‘side’ but surely there are things we can all agree on? No....

Probably.

I am just interested/concerned in what the "slightly unpopular measure(s)" might be though.
I think that those that are concerned re CGT and harsh taxes on the BTL market - have every right to be concerned. It will be a soft target (will please a lot on here), hard to avoid and secure significant income.

I started to think along those lines many months ago and it has driven a lot of my financial/wealth planning - so much so that I almost (but not quite) hope to be proven correct

I don't think many people apart from the current Labour Party have a problem with deporting people who've committed serious crimes and have come to this country over the age of 18.

It's a bit more difficult morally when they've come to the country under the age of 18 though. Personally, I think it depends on the severity of the crime but given that all the offenders had apparently served at least 12 months in prison, I'm guessing it's not because they've dodged the TV licence.

We're one of the most liberal countries in the world when it comes to sentencing so I'm a bit sceptical when it comes to people complaining about how hard it is on serious offenders if they've had to do 18 months in prison then are deported to another country as free persons when in most other countries in the world (especially in relation to drugs offences), they'd be doing prison sentences 10 times longer for the same crime.

They are not British citizens and they've not lived here continuously otherwise they'd be exempt from deportation.

The government is just enforcing the law... A law put in place by Labour.

I don't think many will lose much sleep.

Let’s say you came here as a 5 year old from Estonia. 20 years later you beat some up. Do you seriously think it’s fair that on top of your original jail sentence that you should then be put in a detention centre and shipped off to Estonia? Leaving Mrs Inbetween and Inbetween Junior without a potential bread winner/second wage and a father. Do you really think that is justice?

Because I don’t. This is all about the Tories being seen to be tough when really they are picking on people without a real voice to give red meat to their base

My mum came to England from Scotland when she was 6, would it be fair to ship her back if she committed a crime in her 30s? No, the idea is absurd

the 17 deported all were serious crimes. Their custodial sentences when added together exceeded 75 years.

If they are serial offenders then yes.

People are defending the “non-violent” offenders but these people are ruining lives by dealing illegal drugs. The trail of violence their action leaves, the lives ruined as a result of their actions and the sheer selfishness means they deserve it all.

Cheap point about your mother, she’s British, this is Britain.
