The Conservative Party

I look at the leadership candidates and it is like something from deliverance

How much inbreeding do these people do. It has obviously not only affected their looks but they come across dumb also.

What is as frightening is the population here now does not really seem to care. The incompetence is just allowed.

Trumpland UK.

Having been reading the papers and thinking about this over the weekend, I've come to the conclusion that the Tory party is completely and utterly screwed. They've managed to get themselves into a position from which there is no way out.

On the one hand it is patently clear that if there were to be a GE before we have left the EU, then the Tories would be wiped out. A large proportion of would-be Tory voters would abandon them and vote for the Brexit party. Labour would doubtless be similarly impacted, but nothing like as bad and would imo win a comfortable majority. With a near-Marxist PM and Marxist chancellor, a truly frightening prospect.

On the other hand, the strong showing of the Brexit party in the Euro elections has made compromise with the ERG impossible, and with it, any prospect of a negotiated soft Brexit which could conceivably command a majority in the HoC. And there's also no chance of getting a majority for a no deal Brexit, given the parliamentary arithmetic.

So I cannot see any way in which the Tories can deliver Brexit, which they needy to do if they are not to be obliterated in the next GE. Us "defaulting" out on a no-deal Brexit will be blocked by the HoC. They are fecked.

Maybe parliament can force a 2nd referendum, which I imagine Remain would win, and in that scenario, the Tory vote will also be decimated at the next GE. Any which way, they are fecked.

Correct. The membership of c100k pensioners are forcing the direction of the party to the right and toward an ever harder brexit ideology. It's fantasy politics as it has no wide popular support and doesn't have the numbers in the HoC. As a policy it will fail. That failure just plays in to the hands of Farage. He is a chancer and has no real intention on delivering anything. He operates as a protest movement. Brexit is the hill the tories will die on. They wont be obliterated though - as we are dealing with a huge split field. The vote share for winning an MP seat was typically 30 - 50%. with the current mess it might drop to as low as 20% in some seats. The outlook is still hugely dependent on what Labour do and what the other remain parties do in terms of an alliance.

What an utterly inept bunch who are joining the race to become our next P.M. I really don’t know how we got our country in this mess.

You think they are screwed now. Just wait until May decides not to resign.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next when all 313 of (probably including May) stand for leader and all get one vote each*

*Apart from Chris Grayling who forgot to vote for himself.

As someone on twitter said - the fact so many hopeless candidates are standing says a lot about the state of the party.

So many of them using it just to boost their profile and career prospects. In times gone by they would have been asked quietly to get out of the way. What we have now is a situation where the party machine has practically no authority to keep things orderly.

You put your name in..........you are persuaded to drop out but support one of the others ..... a condition of which is you get a senior cabinet job for your "sacrifice".... thats how it works

I'm shocked to see they're having TV debates for the leadership contest. Don't they always swerve the normal ones for General Elections?

Ester McVey on Sky now parroting all the Farage-esque quote. 'Arch-remainers', 'will of the people', 'clean break' etc

Why any poor, working class person thinks she has their best interests at heart is totally beyond me. But seen as though it is Brexit at all costs they will worry about that further down the line

Now she wants to cut overseas(foreign aid) aid and is rowing back on schools teaching about same-sex relationships. Happy for kids to be taken out of class.

She's a fucking nutcase
