The Conservative Party

At a time when the public's perception of politicians and politics is at an all time low, does anyone genuinely believe he is the man to begin to turn that perception round?

He is a lying ****, even by politicians’ appalling standards. Absolute disgrace if this man becomes Prime Minister. He’s a fucking fraud.

Johnson is far from ideal........but who would be your alternative, and why?

Far from ideal??

This is the death of our politics as a serious measure of democracy and decency.

Makes me ashamed that a country I am so proud of is blindly allowng this to happen.

Too late. Any pride I had in being British is long gone. It probably wasn't pride anyway, just thankfulness for living in a land where most people held to decent values and looked to others' interests and not just their own, and the public interest was the motivation for most politicians.

Man alive, that was a long, long, long time ago.

I don't see any politician, from any party, being even close to ideal.......there is literally no MP i can think of with the character or moral fibre worthy of my respect, hence my use of the phrase.

So,instead of getting all outraged about my comment,is anyone going to give me their thoughts and reasoning on an alternative?

Sorry, been tied up all morning: do you mean from the remaining field, or more widely?

Rory Stewart seems measured, eloquent and sensible. Don't really agree with a lot of his politics, but he actually seems alright in comparison with the rest of the shower on offer.

But would vote new labour you mean

Not necessarily. There are millions of people politically homeless at the moment. I suppose that might be one destination for their vote, but it's also notable (and frankly a bit weird) how plenty of solid Labour voters on social media are praising him. Now, if they're doing that because of the feeling that he's easily beatable for their party, more power to their elbow, nothing wrong with playing that game. But if they mean it, it's as irrelevant as a solid Tory from Tunbridge Wells thinking that Dan Jarvis is a good bloke and Labour should put him in charge.

I guess more broadly, because as i said above i'm not seeing anyone worthy of my future vote.

However,i'm also interested to hear who people would prefer, and why, from the remaining candidates?
Any of them, quite frankly. Including, somewhat unbelievably, Gove. Agree with what @joe123 said about Stwart.

More widely, if I could pick any MP to run the country, it would be Caroline Lucas, because our destruction of the planet has to stop.

If you look at his record, he isn't any different from the other leadership candidates, only he is a soft brexiteer not a no deal crank lile most of them

But yes as he isn't tainted by years in this rotten government like johnston, hunt, javid, gove labour members do think he would be a threat and so are rightfully impressed with how he is coming across.

But he sounds like some centre right partly liberal and those in the centre are lapping up his bollocks, he is as bad a tory as the rest, just dresses it up better.

Cheers,i'll educate myself where she is concerned.

You must really despise Johnson to give Gove's name.....lol.For me,Matt Hancock seems tolerable.

Well, you see, you're using pejorative phrases there - and that's absolutely fine, but it identifies where you're coming from and why it doesn't matter what you think on this particular issue. You just aren't going to vote for them. Any political party needs to have a leader that both satisfies its core vote, and also reaches out beyond that to pick up the floating voters as well. That isn't you - it's not a criticism in any way, it's a statement of reality.
