The Conservative Party

Well, you see, you're using pejorative phrases there - and that's absolutely fine, but it identifies where you're coming from and why it doesn't matter what you think on this particular issue. You just aren't going to vote for them. Any political party needs to have a leader that both satisfies its core vote, and also reaches out beyond that to pick up the floating voters as well. That isn't you - it's not a criticism in any way, it's a statement of reality.

Not denying that, I make it clear I would never vote tory, what I am saying is all this rory seems nice guff is ignoring his record as a parliamentry MP in favour of he seems decent, and anyone who voted labour and are not happy with the present leadeship and direction who seriously see stewart as the answer to their wavering is finding it in the wrong place imho.

There is something rotten in politics now where what a person dresses themselves as, a loverbale rogue, a decent chap, a cardi wearing pacifist etc take presidence over their actions bothers me.
Put it this way I seriously think if thatcher in her prime was running today in this election the feneral public woyld have the same opinion as they do McVey, as she wasn't moderate, reasonable or nice and even though I hate her, she was politician that you knew stood for something, Stewart can dress himself up as some nice progressive moderate, but he isn't.

Rory Stewart seems measured, eloquent and sensible. Don't really agree with a lot of his politics, but he actually seems alright in comparison with the rest of the shower on offer.

I think his lead role in the last temptation of Christ makes him controversial with Christian voters

Any of them, quite frankly. Including, somewhat unbelievably, Gove. Agree with what @joe123 said about Stwart.

More widely, if I could pick any MP to run the country, it would be Caroline Lucas, because our destruction of the planet has to stop.

I think a lib dem green coalition would be a dream ticket. Ridiculous thing to hope for though

Yes, but the very point is that you are far more likely to be in favour of someone who you feel is closer to your own views, and because you'd never vote for him, that would be a terrible choice for the Conservatives. They need a leader who will make people vote Conservative, not one who those that don't think is alright.

I know that, I have no horse in this race but the chance stewart would appeal broadly across the country, I am saying people shouldn't be fooled by his moderate patter as it is clearly bollocks.

He would be best for the tories and they are fools not to elect him.

I don't agree at all. If they chose him they'd be writing their own suicide note with the Brexit Party picking up millions of votes. Not that there's a cat in hell's chance of it happening.

A lot of those who are protesting now by voting BP would revert to normal once brexit happens, if he could get a deal over the line and we have left at last those fed up with waiting will plod back along.
Hard liners would mabye be lost but in reality those staunchly like fromage are few and far between.

Yes, I'd agree with that, but given he's advocating essentially a continuation of May, there's no more reason to assume he would than anyone else would, whatever their own tactics on the matter.
