Agree with the author, Supermarkets should have never been eligible for this rate relief when they were one of the few places to stay open, increased profitability and because coronavirus was beneficial in bringing forward their long-term modernisation plans. Would have made much more sense to have given money with conditions attached (no buy-backs/dividends/ or redundancy limits) or to taken an equity stake in the business- If it is not appropriate because of the business/sector remains profitable or it is too much interference then the financial help needs to go where there is a greater need.

"Sainsbury’s received relief on business rates worth £230m in the first half of its financial year, and now it’s paying £231m in dividends to shareholders. Since the Qatar Investment Authority, with a 21% stake, will be the biggest beneficiary, it’s not too much of a stretch to say Sainsbury’s is also feeding the nation of Qatar with dividends."

£67 million that the Government has indirectly diverted away from local authority coffers and into a foreign country's sovereign wealth fund. About time they got serious and set up one of own.

See Boris has flip flopped on the food packages for starving kids and it seems like Rashford's campaign has won through with Boris realising the error of his ways and becoming a good guy.

Either that or the useless gimp has realised he's now struggling in the polls and coincidently his mucker across the pond has just taken a doing and wants to save face. I know which one of these scenarios sounds most plausible...

Has anyone from our government congratulated the president elect yet or they still holding out on recounts and electoral fraud?

whats that now? U-turn number 15? Pretty fucking dismal total in less than 12 months..................he makes Mayday look a good leader. When you think of all the votes he lost before he purged his party of dissenting voices when his PM term is analysed its going to look shambolic - the worst PM ever.

What are the chances Boris takes a similar beating in the next election as his American twin?

well you have got the corruption, the failed dealing with the pandemic, the economic disaster that is Brexit on the horizon, massive recession, record UK debt, record unemployment..............not a fucking chance he will be in charge by the next election mate.

Don't forget he is going against his party in caving in on this. All his MPs voted against it remember.

Another day another u turn . Raab on the Marr show caught like a rabbit in the headlights, wouldn’t trust these lot to run a bath never mind a country.

Another U-turn. Going against all his MP who voted against it. Will they have another vote in Parliament or will they ride roughshod over our democracy?? No need to answer that as we know already.

Raab was just as bad on Sky.

"Do you think all votes should be counted in a democratic election?"

"Well..We have a special relationship with the US..."

"It's a simple question. Do you think all votes should be counted in a democratic election?"

"The United States has a system of checks and balances..."

"That's not what I asked..."

Most will have done local TV and radio interviews, some will have been on nation programmes some will have given interviews to local papers and some to national papers all explaining why it couldn't be done.........and once again he spits in their faces and throws them under the bus. If they continue to back him thats their lives until the next GE delivers the mercy killing on the political careers.

They didn't want it. They knew it was toxic, "nasty party" stuff, and the cost is barely a drop in the Covid "Tory chums' contracts" handouts. But they were whipped to say no, and voted accordingly. Now they'll be whipped to say yes, and will have the Central Office brief to pass on to their local voters. I can see it now in their facebook pages and tweets, "Tories to fund school dinners while Starmer fends off Corbynistas".

Some more on the lovely Ms. Bingham...

we are days away from finding her links to the PR firm and the firms links to the Tory Party donorship.

Kids are getting free school meals and activities over the Xmas holidays solely because that deflects some attention from this. They think people are too dumb not to be able to read two articles and not be able to join the dots.
