Another manifesto promise about to be torn up.

"We will proudly maintain our commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of GNI on development, and do more to help countries receiving aid become self-sufficient."

It was actually to fund an Israeli hospital treating wounded Syrian fighters which may have included some jihadis. Bit of an exaggeration to call it Al Qaeda funding.

IOW: He can't possibly afford another sacking, because his authority hangs by a thread. We'd end up with Steve Baker or sth. And he'd completely overpower Boris by lunchtime on his first day. Also Boris knows full well one scandal takes attention away from the next. There are only so many hours in the day. No-one can truly work through all this shit and nail him properly, without getting distracted by one of the other disasters that seems to require urgent attention.

All whilst he's unavoidably isolated. Crikey Boris. What are the chances? Just as well no-one really grew to depend on your leadership.

I agree with paragraph 3. People like Trump and Johnson have to live in the present. Daily scandals, funnily enough, take the pressure off as no one is actually held to account or scrutinised by the time the next one comes along - great for the individual, not great for actually governing

Regards Patel being an ‘intellectual heavyweight’, I’m a bit hungover so maybe the joke has gone over my head, but you cannot be serious?

Few Western journalists have dared to ask why Israel is supporting Jabhat al-Nusra.

Its well documented that the Israeli Army occupying the Golam Heights uses its field hospitals to treat anti government fighters involved in the war in Syria - including members of factions linked to al-Qaida

but in any event it was still a misuse of UK Development Funds

The same way that Blair should have been prosecuted for war crimes.. the country’s political class / system appears to be past help sadly or they really don’t give a shit about the electorate (on all sides)

Not quite the same as funding Al Qaeda is it?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s bad enough that Patel is having unofficial meetings with a view to diverting aid funding, but there’s no need to exaggerate.
Also, using Electronic Intifada as a source is hardly impartial either.

If the meetings were above board ... why didnt she tell people about them.

If the aid was for 'humanitarian reasons' .... why didnt she just say so from the outset.

Why did she lie about the other two meetings?

Conservatives ...... watch what they do ..... not what they say.
 
It's mental that Tory MP's think that calling her kind will somehow disregard an independent review that confirms she is a bully.

Their opinion doesn't change what she is, if that were the case every criminal would use a friend to excuse them of their crimes.
 
I've said it before if the Civil servant who's taking her to court doesn't settle it will all come out in public.

She has a history of it going back to her PR days.

Says something about MPs being as cowardly as Republicans in the US about it. Publicaly posting support to her then anonymously telling journalists they aren't happy about the way the cabinet doesn't give a fuck.

If that were the case Ronnie Biggs could have got his optician to say he wasn't on the run but was merely visiting Brazil as part of an eye test.

I think yesterdays events will have just stiffened Philip Rutman's resolve to have it all out at a tribunal - he will have known Alex Allan and won't be impressed with how his position was undermined by Johnson - its shit or bust now. Like it is for the rapist the hearing date will just get put back and back.
