My wife sells stuff on Vinted, and as far as I can work out it only ever sells for a fraction of what it cost new, so how can there possibly be a taxable profit?I hate the Tories as much as anyone on this thread but I don't mind seeing those who buy limited edition releases in bulk and then sell them at a massive mark-up having to pay tax.
It is odd though taxing those selling used goods. After all, they bought them with wages (net) and paid VAT. They could up paying more tax than the initial cost of the used item. In addition, it does not make sense as it reduces the re-using of goods..
If you selling a garment for £5 that you bought for £40 then you have made a tax loss of £35, not a profit, and so the government will not get any tax revenue or will maybe even have to pay you if you can set trading losses against any other income.
