Most people who came through football in the 70's and 80's in this country would have the opinion you are a liar because they were in scrapes whether they looked for it or not.
Reading your sh1te, i too reckon you are on the wind up and i'd go further and say you've never even been to a match away from Maine Road either.
Got to be. Nobody is that fookin stupid.
Well Mr Cheetham hill blue, that's a grossly inaccurate summing up of my City supporting career. Not that it's any of your business, but, I started going in 77/78. I went to a lot of aways in those days with my mum and dad. Between 84 and 89,before I started playing seriously on Saturdays, I went to almost every game home and away. For an example, take millwall away, when Adcock scored at the far end and we didn't know it had crossed the line. I went on the train from Piccadilly, through euston, to new cross gate.. if I remember right it was £11 return. We were escorted from new cross gate to the ground . The large group of blues in the escort were sung at, mocked and snarled at by about 10 millwall fans. That was it. We didn't want trouble and we didn't get it. I know four lad's who did want trouble so they went on the arseholes coach and got trouble. The coaches were smashed and they got to the ground just after half time. They then had to pay single fares back from euston. One lad I know paid for loads of tickets on a dodgy card (a habit that later got him banged up). Even at a young age this didn't seem "kool" to me. I've done some daft things in my time, especially for one so bright, but fighting? For fun ? A mugs game , surely. I never said I hadn't been caught in trouble. Only that in my opinion, it was USUALLY avoidable.
As I recall it, not one lad who'd been on that smashed up coach had to shellout a single penny to get home as MW(r.i.p) sorted em all out for the train.
Lads you knew must of been very unlucky.

I was with the lot that looked for trouble before the match n' got plenty of it, fuckin great laff it were :-)

I was young dumb n' full of cum ...fully reformed now, I don't even piss in sinks, honestly, I simply like a quiet pint then get to rootin for lads on pitch.

thug ;-)

Although one person did send me a private message saying they agreed with me,

While everyone on this thread has ripped you a new arsehole, the words 'hollow' and 'victory' spring readily to mind re your PM.
So you were 7 in the late 70's when you went with Mater & Pater so really, you can't comment on football violence at matches during that period as you would have been more interested in Jackanory and Crackerjack - Shirley?
At what age did mummy and daddy let you go alone, or with your BOYZ?

All the "fighting" comments are hilarious.

If you wanna fight you climb through the ropes. If you wanna mince along with a bunch of like minded chavs, spot a bunch of opposing chavs, shout obscenities while unaccountably bouncing on the spot, advance and attempt a girly kick or "punch" then kick fuck out of whichever enemy chav has had the misfortune to fall first then you're a "cool cat" I guess.

Brilliant.
People on here are just saying what happend in the 70s no one is bigging it up ,in fact most of us will probably be embarrased at some of the shit we got up to ,,getting into scrapes at aways in the 70s was the priced you paid for going .some aways were truly terrifing

Should of asked him about the fa cup semi, when he was crawling about on the floor after getting decked.

That's the nature of the game, anyone who's done as much as him over the years will have been on the deck at some point, doubt it bothered him that much.
Oh it did mate believe me.

I'v had my say on how things were in the 70s but your reply of 99% of trouble could be avoided needs correcting Mr Nice

If you went by train to away games...as we did.... the chances of you getting out of say Middlesborough train station without being spotted and confronted were virtually nil, every station was covered by the home fans in numbers often known as a spotter firm who then went around the local pubs getting the rest of the mobs out, City were not behind the door either they did it at Piccadilly and Victoria

Coach travel was much the same, home fans would often gather at the entrance to coach parks and you had no choice but to confront them to get to the ground, again City did the same to away fans near the Parkside and later on the Kippax car park

Car travel was just about the safest but the saying 'have you got the time mate' as you got out of your vehicle was notorious for 'sussing' away fans out, all this actually went on Mr Nice, the chances of 99% non involvement in the 70s is a figment of your nice imagination, for fucks sake i got hit on the head by a wooden fence post one match at NORWICH, yes fuckin Norwich!
Hit on the head with a fence post at Norwich? Were you trying to rob the locals fertilizer? Norwich in the late 70's,think Kiddo got a diving header, was the first time I'd seen the police filming fans as we came out of the railway station. Remember some wit shouting "Hello,Ken Russell's here". If my memory serves me right,The Cool Cats were in the opposite end of the ground giving the "City wave" to us sensible ones who'd gone into the designated away end. The world and football has changed beyond all recognition since those days. They were good while they lasted and on reflection despite being really scary at times,I'm pleased to have come through them virtually unscathed. Nowadays, although sanitized,I like to be able to go to the match with my son and 11 yr old grandson and know he'll be safe at the ground, and able to go to the refreshment bars on his own and not worry if he'll get jumped on by marauding Rags or Leeds scum.
Yep fuckin Norwich, 3 of us sat on the river bank early morning after travelling overnight, just opened our tinnies before the pubs opened and 4 big rugby types came charging at us down the towpath, before i could get to my feet one whacked me with a broken fence post he picked up, bit of a stand off until the rest of our mates who were mooching about outside the Jolly Angler came onto the river and these 4 big fuckers wandered off, i was seeing stars all day!
On reflection you should have done the sensible thing and gone down on the morning of the match on the "Football Special" from Piccadilly! Lol! Cyberblue mentioned West Brom and police dogs. I still,to this day, bare a scare on my hand where one of them sank it's teeth into me. Only a few weeks ago the girl who sits next to me at work enquired about the scar. After trying to deflect her inquisitevness, when I told her to truth she was horrified. As any normal person would be. But if you wasn't around in those days, especially going to away matches,at this point I hasten to add to watch the Blues and give them your support and not being the slightest bit inclined with getting any mither,it's impossible to comprehend what a typical match day experience was like. I may have said previously that the "Cool Cats",whichever spelling is used, gave you a sense of security going to away games. The opponents may have wanted a fight,if they did,we'd point them in the direction of the "Cool Cats" who would duly oblige. Leaving us to get home relatively safely. I know it's not big,it's not clever. I'm 53 now and putting my teeth in before I can eat peanuts, but the "Cool Cats" were then, mid to late 70's,that's how football was before all seater stadium,Sky and half and half scarves. The defenition of being a true hero would differ from person to person, experience to experience etc. But for me,on an away going football experience,I will be eternally grateful the "Cool Cats"were there to do the fighting I wasn't capable of.
