I don't blame the Daily Mail for being protective of Austria. It was the heart of the Third Reich. Berchtesgaden where Austria's most famous son so was well-pampered was mere miles from the Austrian border. Nor do I blame the Daily Mail. for defending the honour of a church - churches also being so well respected by Austria's most famous son for being a part of his power base. The Daily Mail was the paper that in the 1930s had a headline : 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts.' Mind you, I must be fair and record that many people favoured the Nazis in those days, right up to certain members of the nobility and royal family, all of which has been conveniently shovelled under the carpet.
