The damage done by 20 year's inferiority to Man United

Good post and as a young (22) City fan Im sick of the paranoia over people having it out for us. We won the title last year. The conspiracy is over.

Good post, when United are on the ball around our area I'm panicking for my life, I don't want the ***** to score. Even when they aren't in particularly dangerous position I'm shitting myself and over-thinking things.
Maybe it's because I'm one of the dreaded foreign fans... well, dreaded by some at least... that it's not a matter of them scoring at all that bothers me. I feel the same way about them that I do for anyone within touching distance of us as far as league position goes. I don't want them to score. I want them to fail, but not because of who they are but because I want us to win the Premier League.

The thing is, when we beat them 1-0 at the end of last season with the Vinny header, they didn't even threaten and I was an nervous wreck!
4 goals up,league cup "Buchan the Bastard".One minute to go,my mate turns to me and says "Will you shut the fuck up,they ain't going to score 5 in a minute"
Switch it slightly. I always thought they had an infeariority (I know) to us ,as regards our loyalty. I think they always wonder if things don't go well, will they still show up in their thousands

Ah yes, the "you have emotional problems but whey the fuck don't you man up" school of psychiatry. That should do the trick. I now don't expect to see another thread about bias for about, oh I don't know, say a little over two days?

I don't like united, but who does?
The real way to triump is to be calm and enjoy your life....

As joe hart said..." let's do it again"<br /><br />-- Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:28 am --<br /><br />Oh and to put it down to united is thick, true to form and what I've come to expect.... But yeah means to an end

The most conservative analysis of supporters estimates Utd has over 300 million fans worldwide, that's a large constituency for a media largely driven by advertising and subscriptions. On the simple basis of giving the punter what he wants Utd is going to get a positive spin and their rivals, particularly City, grudging lukewarm praise when they do well, and caustic criticism when they stumble.

Really enjoyed the OP and some of the other contributions, especially from GDM. One of the most thoughtful threads on here.

I've supported City since the early 1960's. The rags have undoubtedly been favoured by the press for big chunks of that time, if not all of it. Even now, Sir Bacon's worst utterances are never challenged. That does piss me off mightily, I must admit. So I guess some of us old gits have a bit of a complex too.

Is it inferiority? In terms of on-field success and good publicity, yes. However we've always had the consolation that our supporters are far superior to any glory hunters. The shit years have pulled us all together and the next few years will be all the better for it. Enjoy, fellow Blues.

That's the insecure/paranoid angle.

There are about 3 million Man United fans in this country. That means there are 57 million who don't support them. And if there's anything that our title win in May should tell you it's that the vast majority of non-Man United fans love it when they lose or cock up.

So using your logic, that the papers slant their stories to please their audience, then there should be much more negative press than positive press for Man United.

Interestingly, a lot of their fans think there is an "ABU" slant in the press for this exact reason.

But my thread is about much more than just the continual "agenda/bias" bleating. It's about the fact that every time we put tickets on sale, an element of our support (and I still think it's mainly the young ones) start fretting about whether it will sell out. Every time we start a song, people start fretting about whether it is "rag-like". A couple on here have even admitted that their first thought when we are losing is what their United mates will say.

Great post. I'm 26 and as you say I've grown up with United winning everything and us having to challenge for the prestigious Thomas Cook trophy and having to be happy with that. I try to not think about just what City are doing and not what they're doing but to be honest it is tough.

Ha! I remember this. The paranoia has become part of it. Utd's 99 treble was the lowest moment & they still use it to this day to try & establish a sense of inferiority amongst rival fans.

All games should finish at the same time.

The whole world seen that banner and made me so proud to be Blue, summed us and them up perfectly

i'm only 20... and as pathetic as this may sound when owen scored to make it 4-3 it was honestly one of the lowest moments of my life, i was down for weeks about it, i even considered giving up football as i just thought it wasn't worth it. What made things worse was some rag launching a pint over me and robbing my scarf off me on the way home. There were a group of them and i was alone(Big). Obviously i couldn't and eventually I got over it. I now watch that aguero goal religiously and take so much pleasure from seeing those raggy bastards faces when they realise. (I can never help but swear at my laptop screen.)

Admittedly i have probably come across as a massive loser but i really do hate those bastards
