The dentist

I hear
I know you have heard it before mate but here it is anyway. Having bad teeth can cause a myriad of other medical problems and for the sake of a couple of hours of terror you'd feel a lot better.

I am what you would call a nervous patient and my dentist surgery know full well that whilst in the chair I am on a hairline, because they know this they numb the area even for a check up and I am more than pleased for them to drill my face off to get things right.
I hear what you’re saying but I am getting to an age where other ailments are higher up the priority queue.
As much as I dislike the dentist, now I am having to pay as you go, should I have a problem, he will always see me

Amazes me how people take better care of their car than their teeth! Oil change as prescribed in the manual, correct tyre inflation to save the rubber, etc, etc, etc…but tell them to see a medical professional to keep their teeth, eyes, general health in good nick and not only do they not have the time or inclination, but they say it’s too expensive!

Comparing one’s car maintenance costs with health maintenance costs, it’s a no brainer.

I'm no expert mate but I think that's a mistake.

We go to the University dental (no charge) and when I started going I hadn't been for about 5 years.
3 teeth had decay and the Prof in charge said if I'd left it another year I could've lost those teeth, as it was the managed to save them and decay removed and filled.
I shot myself in the foot a bit Bill. He was previously NHS and I had 4 teeth break on me in quick succession over the winter. Because I was having other treatment at the time which was reducing my immune system I declined treatment on the basis I was worried about picking up Covid etc over the Winter. I then got a letter from him saying he was going private so the treatment cost me about twice as much in the Spring.

I just had a thing called a Periodontal clean.
It's where they get under where the tooth meets the gum. They did top one week and bottom week 2.

Getting on as an NHS patient is nigh on impossible now round here it seems, private charges are ridiculous, was quoted £400 for two standard fillings here, so went on holiday to Turkey, booked to see a dentist there, less than £100 for two composite fillings.

As it turned out, one of the teeth (that my uk dentists had been ‘saving ‘ for over a decade) was fucked and needed a crown (managed to get away without having a root canal), cost me 160 euros (5 year guarantee that if I had any issues at all it would be corrected free of charge), got back to the uk and enquired at a few dentists just ‘to see’, all ranged between £700 - £800.

Price though wasn’t the only difference, it was all literally pain free, they put some numbing ointment on my gumbos so didn’t even feel the needles, something I’ve never been given in a UK dentists, first pleasant experience at a dentist I’d ever had (barring the one with the absolutely gorgeous dental nurse, with the figure hugging tunic at the orthodontist on St John’s Street, Manchester, 1982).

I've always had a fear of dentists, a few years ago I was on hol in Turkey and my tooth started playing up so I had no choice. I went to a recommended one there and it was a doddle, the injection only numbed the tooth and not half my face like it does over here. I was eating and drinking within half an hour and it only cost 40 quid.
If I ever need a dentist in the future I'll always wait till I'm in Turkey.

Been with my nhs dentist for nearly 50 years
And never had a problem with then till covid started then I could never get an appointment despite the fact I’ve always paid so during that period I had two old front teeth snap off completely so had no choice but to go private.
Ended up with 6 brand new front teeth
Fucking expensive but the service compared to my old nhs dentist was night and day
No pain constantly asked if I was ok in and out bang on time, a totally different experience.

It’s no coincidence that when you have to pay for something you are treated better than someone who is seen to be getting treated for free.
That’s how it is in the medical profession even though it can be the same person treating you whether it’s NHS or private.

Went today.
As you walk in theres a sign that's says if you miss one appointment you are de-registered but we can see you privately.

80quid spent today I guess that's not to bad for two small fillings and abit of a clean and a check up.
