Rumours around at the time it was named, that Man Utd supporters were voting for King Col, so it would be named the Bell End.

They really don't know us, do they :)

Wasn't the original plan to rename the North or South Stand? But in an attempt to avoid the whole 'Bell End' thing it was changed to the West Stand when it became clear that King Col was going to win.

Or is my memory just playing tricks on me?

We couldn't have had the Bell End because at the time we had David Seaman in goal.
"ohhh and he's lobbed Seaman from the Bell End"

Isn't it about time we gave proper names to the North, South and East stands, as we have with the Colin Bell? The Bert Trautman end, the Neil Young family stand? North, South and East is a bit standard. I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet to be honest.

There's only the North and East Stands left. I christened the South Stand the Dave Ewing Stand some time back!

careful what you ask for, we might end up with The 'EA Sports' End, 'Etisalat' Stand, The 'Jaguar' Enclosure (away fans) and The 'Aabar' Stand ......... just so we quality under the FFP.

could do what Blackburn did, The Darwen End points towards the town of Darwen close by ...... north stand would be "The Pie Stand" (Wigan), east would be "The Cake Stand" (Eccles), west would be "The StalyVegas End" and south would be "Another win at Wembley Stand" lol
