The negative is, and this is the case with any loan deal, you've just spent £28m and you've not improved your squad from last season.

can understand that point of view, but we could also have spent 28 million on a player who we would have had to have fitted in around a team or system. lukaku knows the way we play and what is expected so the season loan will hopefully have advanced his progress. i am pleased rather than ecstatic but it's a leap in the right direction. i hoped last season that martinez could consolidate a top 10 position, i think this season could be a difficult one for us but i expect a top half finish. just having a manager and team who want to play football is an achievement and only time will tell re results.
Pellegrini named Everton as one of the teams that could win the title

In this instance he's wrong.

Everton can have a good season, and push to finish in or around the 4th/5th/6th region again, but they won't win the league, or be anywhere close to it.

i think we will struggle a bit this year as too many teams have strengthened considerably. finish between 8th and 12th

I can't see you finishing any lower than 7th. City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs I can see an argument for finishing ahead of you (although I think you can definitely stay up there with the likes of Spurs) but who would be the others that could knock you back as low as 9th, yet alone 12th? Newcastle, I don't see it. Southampton have been gutted. West Ham and Stoke aren't good enough either. Swansea have been taken apart and have an inexperienced manager. I think you're being overly pessimistic.

it's not always that you finish where you deserve to mind. being overtly pessimistic comes with being an evertonian, otherwise i would be a kopite and would be proclaiming this will be our year yet again! i just have a gut feeling we will struggle, lot will depend on keeping key players fit, lukaku looked shattered at times last year, and though tim howard had a good season, we lack an understudy as robles proved. martinez seems keener on europe in interviews and the extra games will be difficult, but we will see i guess.

Barcelona agree to loan Gerard Deulofeu to Sevilla for the 2014-15 season.
The La Liga side say the move is "an operation designed to maximize his participation and optimize his progression as a player."
Deulofeu, 20, spent last season on loan at Everton and struck three goals in the league for the Blues.
Bad news for shackattack.

I think Everton gave up on the possibility of Deulofeu arriving a while ago, that's why they've loaned Atsu from Chelsea.

Yep I thought that too but Deulofeu had a big impact for them last year and I'll be surprised if Atsu does the same, although I've only seen his WC performances since leaving Porto.

Deulofeu showed glimpses of what he could aspire to and it was a testimony to the lure of Martinez that we were able to even loan him from barca. The horrible ginger cnut would never have convinced him to play for us.

I thought Everton looked a decent side last season & were good to watch. I was wrong about Martinez & he has shown that he is very good manager. I think they will finish in a similar position to last season.
