Yes it would. So if you win Europa do you have to go through the qualifier stage of Champions? Or are you guaranteed group stage like the top 3?
straight to group stage

straight to group stage
and no.4 (assuming PL winner) misses out?

Would be really hilarious (but close to impossible) if a team finishes 5th in the league but wins the CL having qualified last year, and a lower team from the same league wins the EL

I think they said at the time should a team win the Europa Lg and finish outside the Chump's Lg qualifying spots that they'd be counted as an extra qualifier. Therefore, England would have five representatives in the Chump's but one less in the Europa.
I think...
I might have dreamt it, actually...

4th place misses out don't they? Isn't that what happened to spurs when Chelsea won the champions league or is that different because it's the CL?

UEFA have made from this season winning the Europa League a doorway into the Champions League, so if Everton win it but finish outside the top 4 then England will have 5 representatives in the Champions League.

If we won the Champions League but finished outside the top 4 then whoever gets 4th spot gets their Champions League pathway made void, similar to Chelsea and Tottenham a few seasons ago.

maybe just maybe lukaku is a young lad who was not content in collecting huge wages sat on his arse at a CL club and wanted to play football every week. i think the fee will turn out to be more like 25 million, which i agree is still a lot of money. it could be ironic as well that his succesful season at everton last year increased his value. i look upon it as an investment and like all investments it has an element of risk. the postive is it will increase the revenue of the club and energizes the team and fans.

The negative is, and this is the case with any loan deal, you've just spent £28m and you've not improved your squad from last season.

can understand that point of view, but we could also have spent 28 million on a player who we would have had to have fitted in around a team or system. lukaku knows the way we play and what is expected so the season loan will hopefully have advanced his progress. i am pleased rather than ecstatic but it's a leap in the right direction. i hoped last season that martinez could consolidate a top 10 position, i think this season could be a difficult one for us but i expect a top half finish. just having a manager and team who want to play football is an achievement and only time will tell re results.
Pellegrini named Everton as one of the teams that could win the title
