The fans let our team and manager down

I think for me the problem is i somehow thought City fans were special as I grew up, and were still there as we plummeted. The realisation is that City fans are just an average bunch. Nothing wrong with that

In the Champions League i've been amazed at our lack of support for the team.

The lack of buzz around the ground and in the stands before the game is very apparent. Against Napoli - our first ever CL game last season - it actually struck me that people didn't actually seem that excited. The five games we've played at home in the CL have felt no bigger than an early round FL Cup tie against Swindon. Then throughout the game we've had pretty much nowt apart from the odd chant going round the ground.

It's really made me think that the Champions League really isn't all that, at all. I thought it was the be all and end all of this sport, something really special...it isn't, though. Or at least hasn't felt that way.

I watched Celtic last night and they are on a different planet to us. That looked and sounded like a Champions League game. And it's not even like they've never played there before - they've played in it loads and beaten some very good teams, in 2008 they got to the Quarter Finals. Contrasting that, we've played five home CL games and you'd think we could take it or leave it, like it's not important to us.

I think English fans are quiet on the whole (with a few exceptions - Derby, Palace, Stoke sometimes, Spurs sometimes, Sunderland sometimes) but i thought, with us being in a competition we once only dreamed of being part of, we (a usually quiet set of fans) would even make some sort of racket. But...no!

If the OP is a Rag; so what?! Is he lying that our CL support is w@nk? No, he isn't! If he's come on here for a bit of a sad p!ss take then he's a bit of a knob, but the actual substance behind it is actually true.

I'm a cup scheme member so have been going to all the cup games and I do have to say that I thought the atmosphere for Champs league matches would be better than it has been. I'm not blaming anyone for it and the cost is way too high for some I accept that. Even though I pay full whack on cup scheme I'd prefer it if the club lowered the prices on match day if there were spares to get that full house. Wouldnt bother me particularly that I have paid more than others - I would accept that when I sign up to cup scheme.

Re atmosphere its a weird one. After the game on Tues I was gutted but I'll be more gutted if exactly the same were to happen on Sun against Spurs.

Maybe thats it? In my mind the prem league is way more important than the Champs league so anything we do in that is a bonus rather than them be must win games. Am I alone in that?

how about the club tried to squeeze every last penny out of already hard up fans, instead of making the prices competitive and filling the ground with passionate blues and creating a partizan atmosphere.

city are happy to try and fill the ground with anyone, which is fair enough, but when you are pricing your core support out, dont be suprised when the it comes back to bite you on your arse.

tuesday night was as flat as a pancake, more like a league cup game, something is missing from these nights.

for all the money in the game, surely the club acting in unison with the fans and filling the ground would be better for all concerned.

i dont advocate giving the tickets away, but when families are being asked to part with a ton on a midweek night, then it stands to reason loads are going to watch it on the box.
I don't disagree with that. The none capacity crowd could tell you that it was possibly priced wrongly on Tuesday.

Because we've never been in it, I've always thought the Champions League is a load of contrived, commercial bollocks. To some extent I still feel the same now. It's a nice treat on top of the stuff that really matters like the Premier League. Am I that arsed about us going out? Well, a bit, yes but I'd happily go out of the group stages with 0 points if it meant us winning the league.
I just can't get enthusiastic about it as a tournament yet. Maybe it would change if we got a taste of the knockout stage or if we win the Premier League a few times, who knows? I'm seriously thinking of opting out next year and saving myself £100+.

Possibly not, (I don't watch them a lot) but then a flat atmosphere in the Europa league is a bit more understandable.

Plus, you're probably making my point for me, passionate noisy support = better results. If that's true, then why would you not get behind the team voiciferously.

I'm not making your point for you. Results are about a whole lot more than how many people turn up or how many songs they sing.

It's why Stoke are good at home but literally can't win away.

Maybe they don't like to travel. Maybe home teams come at Stoke more than they do than when they are away, and Stoke can't cope with it.

It's probably what gave the Celtic players that little extra lift that allowed them to hold out at home but succumbed away.

Why do we bother about players, tactics, managers when all you need to win is get a lift from your supporters.

I find it ironic that criticism of our players is open season but when you actually point the finger at us 'the fans' not exactly covering themselves in glory a lot of fans on here get all precious and defensive.

I'm not getting defensive. I just think you're wrong. I don't really care if you think anyone didn't cover themselves in glory. When the rule comes in that we should all support the club the way you think best I'll probably take a bit more notice.

Just what is up with our support ?

We spent 44 years waiting for our club to battle it out in footballs elite competition, the Champions League, (or it's precursor the European Cup) and no sooner are we presented with the opportunity our fans treat the occasion with contempt, like its a game against Wigan in the premier league or carling cup.

We don't sell out, yet we can sell out a 3rd round cup tie against the rags in the FA Cup (You have to question therefore what motivates a proportion of our fans) for me Dortmund in the Champs league is a way bigger game.

Those that do turn up (some credit here) and then the atmosphere is as flat as a pancake with no passion for the team or the occasion. I'm sorry but 40,000 in a champs league game against Ajax is embarrassing.

Celtic showed what can happen with 'real' passionate support behind you that nothing is impossible. We, let our players and our team down.

We have one game against Real Madrid to turn our reputation around, albeit sadly I fear too late. We 'the fans' didn't turn up. If you're a regular who didn't go, but decided to watch it on the tele - hang your head in shame.

Its easy to come on here and slag this player or the manager - but just what did you do to help the team come through !? My guess is the majority moaning did absolutely jack sh*t.

I sing, every game, most of the time its wasted breath but I still turn up and sing. If you go to the game it's what you should do, it's about our reputation as fans and it's about helping OUR team get the outcome we want.

As I say, we have one last chance to show our players what pulling on the blue shirt in a champions league means to us - the fans. If you are a blue, be there, and GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

Blue army.
Sorry pal you are entitled to your opinion but I for one do not agree with it.

United, Chelsea, Arsenal and even Celtic have put up more determined displays in Europe than our players. If we had something to support and cheer we would but frankly we have been dire in Europe and let down the fans big time.

Our support is excellent when we have something to support and our away following goes above and beyond the call of duty both at home and abroad. At present we are not performing as a team and something is wrong, how can the champions of England be leaking goals like a non-league team unless there is a problem?

You carry on singing as much as you want and don't criticise others who can see that whatever the fans do it is not going to alter the fact that we are not functioning as a team and that the players are under performing.

I stay in Aberdeen so to come to a city game costs me a fortune, but i got down for the swansea game the fans who did sing were told to sit down by stewards so im sure many now just dont bother!!

Also on the Celtic front they got 15000 the other week for a cup game so yes last night was impressive but since they only turn up for big games (rod stewart is only there champions league nights) they r on par with U*****d fans for dedication!!!!

And another way to look at things is City got 28-30,000 in Division 2 and 40,000 for a cham pleague which to me shows there are very little glory hunters going to watch City and its a core base of fans i see that as a good thing rather than 5000 "fans" just filling the seats so its sold out!!

dont like the vibe of the op.

i know i didnt let anyone down, i cant go round telling every **** in the stadium how to be cheerful. the fans arent just this big unit that have to shout at any given moment. Was a good atmosphere near me, mabye you should try talking to the people who sit near and around you, see if you can get them a new perspective.................
