The fans let our team and manager down

how about the club tried to squeeze every last penny out of already hard up fans, instead of making the prices competitive and filling the ground with passionate blues and creating a partizan atmosphere.

city are happy to try and fill the ground with anyone, which is fair enough, but when you are pricing your core support out, dont be suprised when the it comes back to bite you on your arse.

Just this.
Prices are ridiculous. If a parent wants to take their two kids tho the Madrid game, aged say 16 and 14, what's the minimum cost of tickets? £100

Just what is up with our support ?

We spent 44 years waiting for our club to battle it out in footballs elite competition, the Champions League, (or it's precursor the European Cup) and no sooner are we presented with the opportunity our fans treat the occasion with contempt, like its a game against Wigan in the premier league or carling cup.

We don't sell out, yet we can sell out a 3rd round cup tie against the rags in the FA Cup (You have to question therefore what motivates a proportion of our fans) for me Dortmund in the Champs league is a way bigger game.

Those that do turn up (some credit here) and then the atmosphere is as flat as a pancake with no passion for the team or the occasion. I'm sorry but 40,000 in a champs league game against Ajax is embarrassing.

Celtic showed what can happen with 'real' passionate support behind you that nothing is impossible. We, let our players and our team down.

We have one game against Real Madrid to turn our reputation around, albeit sadly I fear too late. We 'the fans' didn't turn up. If you're a regular who didn't go, but decided to watch it on the tele - hang your head in shame.

Its easy to come on here and slag this player or the manager - but just what did you do to help the team come through !? My guess is the majority moaning did absolutely jack sh*t.

I sing, every game, most of the time its wasted breath but I still turn up and sing. If you go to the game it's what you should do, it's about our reputation as fans and it's about helping OUR team get the outcome we want.

As I say, we have one last chance to show our players what pulling on the blue shirt in a champions league means to us - the fans. If you are a blue, be there, and GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

Blue army.

Well said. Completely agree.

Parkhead was bouncing last night (even before they took the lead). Our ground, in comparison, was very subdued on tuesday. Most of the noise seemed to be coming from the Ajax fans. Pity.

dont think you can call our support when we take 3600 to madrid
3000 to ajax and same to dortmund!

We have a fantastic minority, on par with the best in the country, I don't think the OP is questioning that!

Disagree totally with the OP's general point - why do youngsters equate love for your club solely with attendance and rabid singing - but as an aside why is it that every set of away fans in Europe make a right racket yet we only respond with a few muted choruses of Blue Moon or We're not really here ?

For me it's partly down to our, in the main, rubbish songs, they're too verbose and not staccato enough. Or maybe it's down to the frighteningly bourgeois crowd.

Very harsh to comment about the crowd as we don't have a wealthy fanbase although we do have a sizeable 'can't be arsed' brigade' who can get to Cup games but prefer to watch in the pub but that is their perogative.

I have just listened to the Guardian podcast and someone remarked that we barely seemed to celebrate the goals and the general apathy, lack of passion and fans leaving early and i can't disagree. The lack of passion by many at the Etihad is staggering and i can't get my head around it, people say PL grounds are all the same but hand on heart i'd say we are one of the worst grounds in the division when it comes to atmosphere, will we ever have a 'bouncing' Etihad?. Why are we so self conscious, reserved, devoid of excitement and so lacking in animation?. Anyway Ewan Fields beckons and a chance to maybe see some spectator participation.

Bourgeois, nice word and 100 % correct. Too many of our fans were priced out a long time ago. Gone and lost forever.
