The Farmers Protests in London

I feel like your point doesn't make sense here.

Taxes are paid on the wages, buying property etc etc... but if my parents die, i don't buy the house. It just passes to me. So why should it be taxed? If I sell the house etc then fair enough, then pay some tax.

As it is now tax is due when the estate is settled.

I could have 5 massive million pound houses left to me and owe a couple of million in tax, but I may be asset rich and cash poor...

We had this with my Grandads estate. It was roughly 800k in total so tax was due. My dad certainly didn't have enough to just pay the tax outright...
This is the problem with perception of inheritance.
Your father was not taxed a penny.
Your grandfather’s estate was.
If that required sale of assets, so be it.

How fucking dare Starmer the Farmer Harmer ask them to pay tax like everybody else!?

It's genocide I tell you!

Farmers are all poor, and all they have to show for their 25 hour working days are their £millions+ of assets.

They only own 70% of the land in this country, from they contribute a mighty 0.6% of the country's GDP.

And although they don't actually pay any tax we should be happy to subsidise them because they very kindly feed us. Farmers don't like tax and so they shouldn't have to pay it if they don't want to.

They are perfectly within their rights to threaten to starve us all if a democratically elected government should be so rude as to ask them to pay a fraction of the IHT that everyone else does.

Oh, and by the way don't forget to Buy British when you shop at the supermarket and support your friendly local farmer, look out for the Red Tractor symbol so you can support them every time you shop, as they don't get enough grants or subsidies to keep them in head to toe Barbour, top of the line Range Rovers and brand new Lamborghini Tractors, them being so poverty stricken and all that.

They get up very early and its a tough job and they have to carry on doing until they die. It's not because they are a bunch of stubborn bastards who think they know best and who are incapable of changing or modernising or trusting their kids to do the job properly.

Of course they are. Working the land and animals is proper hard graft.

You can inherit a business and pay nowt until you sell it - isn’t farming a business ?? Sell it on? You pay tax. That seems fair to me.

I’d also wager that would catch the likes of Dyson and Clarkson unless their kids fancy keeping it on of course but if they spent millions on land their kids can’t get their hands on those millions…
I believe that if it was a limited company that would be the case.

However ,most farmers own the assets personally as a sole trader or partnership, so it is exactly the same as IHT for everyone else's personal assets at death.

They could avoid it very easily by handing it on to their kids 7 years before death, but farmers want to be able to carry on working and controlling things until the day they die, so they don't want to have to do what everybody else does.

Instead they demand special treatment and even though they work have to work 24 hours a day every day, they get on their £200K tractors filled with duty free red diesel and drive down to London protest at paying half the tax rate on 6 times the starting value that everyone else does over a special extended period that you or I can't access.

Farming is tough, especially for tenant farmers who have to pay rent to these land owners who are the ones fomenting the protest. But if you own £millions of land and you still can't make a decent living then you are either a crap farmer or a crap businessman and there is no reason why you should get beneficial tax treatment as a result.

so its their choice then? My Father-in-Law paid IHT coz he owned 3 shops and refused to pass anything on to his son ( who owned a shop) and daughter 2 ( who owned a hair dressing business. He thought of them as his "pension" and despite being advised by his accountant when ill health hit and he had to sell in short order his asset value was lower than he had hoped. You can take a horse to water ...... there ain't no cure for stupid and alternative facts are not facts in the real world but some people cannot be told.

Posted my reason for disliking the fuckers before, but for the sake of being a boring FOC, its from when they trousered a fortune in subsidies and compo by deliberately ensuring foot and mouth spread nationwide by selling barrels of infected blood amongst eachother on the farmers black market. Cheeky fuckers. A good few new Range Rovers were bought out of that, the grabbing tight cunts
