Gutierrez suffered a leg injury in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Braga at St James’s Park, and Alan Pardew says the 30-year-old is doubtful for the club’s visit to the City of Manchester Stadium on August 19. Alan Pardew: “It’s around the buttock – that’s where your power comes from. “We need to be careful on that. We’re sweating on that one now.”

He didn't have a pre-season in 2011 but still came on as a sub against Swansea.
