The Food (merged)

I don't often eat in the ground, but last season I enjoyed the odd chicken burger prior to kick off. They were far from cheap last year at £5.50, but I enjoyed them so I looked past the price.

Got to the ground last night, the service was slower than usual. Had to queue for a while, but eventually bought one of the new chicken burgers.

Was a very steep £6.00, but even worse was that it was half the size of the old ones. That was bad enough, but one bite and it was dry as a piece of card, cold, and clearly undercooked and pink in places.

I was really quite unimpressed. Took it back and got a refund.

Neither value for money nor up to scratch for taste.

Very poor.

I'm not sure whether these moves are to be applauded for their forward thinking, or if they're simply another avenue to fleece fans. Either way, I'm not impressed and I won't be buying again.

Wanted to give it a try and had meat and potatoe pie, chips and a bottle of coke. Cost £9 and wasn't very good value at all. Although the pie wasn't bad, the filling was nice and it was obvious it hadn't just been bunged in a microwave, it by no means justifies the price tag. The chips were terrible, didn't look fresh and as they were luke warm it was obvious they had been cooked off way too early. The bottle of coke had the name Laura on it - I can live with that though..
Unfortunately the worse part was the service. I got in the ground around 7:30, in EL3 it was still fairly quiet with no large queues which turned out to be a godsend as the woman behind he counter was struggling big time with the till and had to call her supervisor on all 3 items she tilled in as she couldn't find them on her screen. She also informed me that there were no sauces available because somebody had lost them? I couldn't be arsed delving too much deeper into that conversation as I'd lost the will to live by that point.

As it was the first day I expect teething problems but if the staff have been on intense training courses like we were led to believe then the company providing the training needs doing under the trade descriptions!
I won't give up on them just yet, I'll try again next time and see how I get on.

BLOODY ELL am i so far behind the times or does anybody else think £5.50 for a pie is absolute day light robbery??

It is, but it's the shape of things to come in terms of how "stadia" will operate. New Wembley showed clubs the way and we are at the vanguard. My choice in future I think will be to make sure I have a good feed before hand either at home or chippy/mackie d's etc.

Can't do without the beer though.

306 had 4 people serving compared to about 6 or 7 last season. Massive queue's, much worse than last season.

do you all shop at Aldi and Lidl

I had to eat last night due to not getting a chance to do so before the game.

Family stand level 2 (first time and the seats are great) went to a child friendly (low counters?) outlet, only had a hot dog (plain) and balti pie left.

Balti Pie was really nice, I've not had one in the ground for a few years, but they where better than I remember them
Hot dog was good, little un wolfed it down I had a bite and it was decent standard.

Half time and young un wanted chips, queued for a bit, got him chips and myself a cheeseburger from what looked like a normal outlet (notFan Fayre livery)

Chips were OK, Burger was good if a touch dry with Cheese, tomato and lettuce, better than any stadium food I've had before, problem for me is the price.

£2.70 for the chips and £4.90 for the burger, £2 and £4 would be a bit more reasonable and probably result in more sales.

Couple of questions though

1) is there a "posh" fan fayre outlet in the 2nd tier family stand as I want to try it out to see if it's any different?

2) I've not seen a report from anyone on the Beer buggies, anyone use them, did they reduce queues etc.?

Just stop off in the Northern Quarter and walk down and digest some lovely food from either Pieminister (I had Venison pie with peas, mash onions gravy, and cheddar cheese for £7.50 before the game), Pie and Ale, and Soup kitchen.

All far cheaper and miles better.

Loads of other options too such as Slice, Common, Trof, Home Sweet Home etc as well.. For me buying in the stadium is for when you have zero time to go anywhere else or have slept in too late on a midday kick off. Or when you are massively hungover.

Did anyone try the cheese and potato pie? Was annoyed they seem to have removed my favoured cheese and onion pasty and the only thing close to it seemed to be the pie! Couldn't be bothered queuing though.

Thanks for the insight folks, £4.10 for me and my mum's pork tenderloin in brandy & garlic cream sauce meal with a small portion for mother left over.

Will continue to plan my home mealtimes around the match and not pay £6 for something that should be £2 thank you very much, if I'm in a rush I might get something out of the freezer that I made previously.

When the £6.10 burgers are approaching the quality of the £6.70 GBK burgers then I might give it a try, I'd rather starve than eat the crap on offer, it's not about the price it's about VFM, value for money.

Completely different - not very cheese tasting, a lot more subtle and lots of seasoning. Very nice though; £150.00 well spent dontcha know!

Normal service on Level 3, clearly Jamies' food doesn't taste too well at altitude.

Three staff on the Sam Cowan Bar (between 302 & 303) and one of them was the quite rude supervisor from last year. Serving is below her until it becomes apparent that the two trainees are not coping all that well and she may have a riot on her hands. Refused to answer any questions either.

Loved the new menus shame you couldn't buy any of it. No Amstel or Heineken why have the pumps? Only had a few months since the end of the season to stock up.

Game was great though but think it will be tins in the car and chips from Brian going forward.

If your highlight of the day is what sort of food you get at the match .i just dont get it the service & quality s never going to be great so why not get something to eat before the game & sure you can last a couple of hours till you get back home or to the chippy

This is like asking the smokers not to smoke for 90 minutes!
