The Formation to get the best out of us

Time will get the best out of us... rodgers at liverpool took him 12 months to get them playing the way he wants, its no coincidence that the 3 most consistent teams this season (arsenal, spurs, liverpool) all had the same manager last season... but formation wise I think pellegrini will start to experiment with things once he feels we ve mastered 4-2-2-2, and probably sell dzeko to fund a left sided winger. Switching between 4-5-1, 4-3-3 and 4-2-2-2...

IMO, this is not being factored in enough. It's no coincidence City Chelsea and the Rags have all had a very inconsistent start. As the season progresses, these 3 teams will gain consistency and move into contention for the title and defo the top 4 positions.

the difference in formations is often just a couple of strides forwards/sideways, we should be able to switch seamlessly without waiting for half-time/sixty minutes. Teams that parked the bus gave us problems all last season, we were too dependent on scoring first and trying to do a Barcelona with intricate passing. We now have the personnel to go round a packed defence at pace, to use a long ball or play out from the back. It will take a level of work-rate and stamina showed us by Bayerne and Dortmund, as well as their quick reactions to various situations.
The hardest part is getting everybody buying into the managers idea at the same time and pulling their weight. It could take until christmas before it all comes together, every week
We still have an unbalanced squad, imo but we are stuck with it until Jan.

Right now our best line up is 4231

Hart
Zaba - Kompany - Nasty - Kolarov
Yaya - Fernandinho
Silva - Aguero - Nasri
Negredo

Navas would normally get in the team ahead of Nasri, with Silva on the left, but Nasri is in great form right now.
Same goes with Kolarov and Clichy, Kolarov is just playing very well at the moment.
And with Kompany out it looks like we're back to playing two left footed center backs unless Demichelles is back soon.

The only problem with the 4-2-3-1 is when we are pushing up and because not everyone gets back we get hit on the counter. I'd prefer to see us playing a 4-3-3, which could easily switch to a 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 when required.

I'd say the players are comfortable with the 4-2-3-1 but this leaves gaps at the back when one of the holding midfielders realises his mate is still near the oppositions 18 yard box and a huge hole appears !

The sooner they can all get used to a 4-3-3 and changing formations the easier it should be to win games AND defend a lead.

We could do with playing a Bayern'esk 4141 formation...

...........................Hart

....Zabba....Kompany....Nastasic....Clichy

..................Fernandinho

.......Navas....Yaya....Silva....Nasri

....................Aguero

Bayern play that way so they can press further up the pitch rather than with 2 holding midfielders which invited the other team to push further up the field against us.

We have too many strikers and not enough midfielders for this to be our main formation.
