Voted UKIP.

Most of those I know who usually/always vote Labour have also moved to UKIP this time around.

I voted UKIP at 7am on the dot.

Round here it is a safe Tory seat so I voted UKIP to show support for a referendum on membership of the Common Market/ EEC/EC/EU.

Tony Benn will have been smiling down on me as I voted as he was not a fan of the EU. He knew it was a tool of big business and no friend of the ordinary working person.

Interesting. It's presumed, probably correctly, that UKIP will take more Tory votes away, whether they affect Labour will be fascinating to see.

Labour are a disgrace if they've forced you to switch to UKIP. They haven't been the party the people for goodness knows how many years. Did you not fancy the Greens?

That chip is weighing your shoulder down isn't it.

And yes I'm ok jack and working fucking hard for it.

I don't know. You should ask their clients.

Who should earn more than a nurse our of interest?

Other than me.
Me,...and I do :)
But their job is much more important than mine imho

I don't vote Labour, I'm libertarian rather than left leaning.

I've been keeping an eye on this as UKIP could have possibly decided the election. It seems that every new UKIP voter, about 1 in 4 come from Labour and 3 in 4 come from the Tories.

The big googly that could be thrown today is if UKIP had a "shy" voting public like the Tories did in 1992 or they had in the recent by-elections. Seosa posted the idea with the backup, but essentially whilst 15% of the popular vote wins them a Bullseye pen and a choc-ice, if you raise that by a few percentage points then it takes them over the line in various marginals and they could take anywhere up to 20 seats.

This of course would guarantee a Labour victory.

I hope I get home in time to vote conservative. Even though my constituency is one of the safest Tory seats I think it is everyone's duty to vote.

If you don't vote you can't complain

Agreed.

Even if you believe that the voting system isn't fair you should at least vote for a party that wants to change it.

If I was PM I would make it illegal for non voters to complain about politics.

I am not sure how I would make it work in practice so I will probably have to ask Damocles to run the system for me.

Bloody typical

Where are you getting this 1 in 4 and 3 in 4 from?

Looks to me like the UKIPs rise coincided with Labour dropping, not the Tories

Both would like to get to know you well.

IMO this response did not get the laughs it deserved :-)

My genius is sadly wasted on this place BG.

Fuck the election, i'm more concerned that it's took 15 pages before someone mentions it was Howard Jones who sang 'like to get to know you well' not Nik Kershaw.

I think parties should have made more of tactical voting.

It would be interesting tonight for example if in seats where Tory/Labour were a distant 3rd that those voters voted for the alternative i.e. Lib Dem/UKIP/Greens, to keep their opposition out.

Surely that's the better ploy for Tory voters today, to keep the Lab/SNP out (yes I know Ed has said no, but politicians hardly tell the truth) is to vote Lib Dem or the alternative to Labour in seats where the Tories have no chance?

Did the whoshouldivotefor thingy and unsurprisingly it came out Tory first UKIP second and labour trailing. Indeed the only party with a lower figure was the greens.

Have to say it was entirely as I expected and is how I'm gonna vote, not that in Stalybridge and Hyde it will make a blind bit of difference.

Strangely though 12 people in this area have taken the poll and 50% came out green!!!! With ukip in joint third with Labour.

I'm the Tactical Turtles uncle if that result comes true

UKIP will appeal to Labour Eurosceptics more than their Tory counterparts as the Tories are offering a referendum so there's no need to for them to switch their vote. On the other hand if Europe is a big issue to a long standing Labour voter, he's more likely to vote UKIP as voting Conservative would be anathema to him.

There's been a bunch of polls on it directly. Good article on it here:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.may2015.com/ideas/why-winning-back-ukippers-wont-necessarily-save-the-tories/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.may2015.com/ideas/why-winnin ... he-tories/</a>

Seems I got the figure wrong - 3 out of 4 UKIP voters would prefer Con as their second choice and 1/4 Lab. The actual source where they are coming from is 15% Labour, 21% Lib Dem and 63% Tory. That's where I got confused with the 3 out of 4; it's 3 out of 5 are ex-Tory voters but 3 out of 4 would vote Tory in this election as their second choice.

tory for me, I grew up in the 70's and saw labour financially and morally destroy my country and the damage they did between 97 and 2010 doesn't bear thinking about.
I not camerons biggest fan, I do feel he is weak at times, maybe that's working in a coalition, but please not miliband and labour in cahoots with the snp, sinn fein et al, that does frighten the shit out of me
