Are you accusing Ed of tax avoidance?

Just that im sure the Mail would have had it as front page news every day last year if he had

Yes.

I would love to see the evidence pal.

If you can produce it i cannot vote Labour at the forthcoming election

Story here - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...n-1.6m-house-after-shrewd-property-moves.html

Rather pathetic rebuttal here - http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2010/oct/09/ed-miliband-journalists-in-glass-houses

So the Guardian's take on it is not to challenge any of the facts, but instead to suggest that "everybody does this kind of thing". Well I'm sure that in Guardian Land, everybody does do this kind of thing.

Labour: desperate to get their hands on everyone else' money so they can keep hold of their own.

Which other Labour MPs would you like to talk about too? Blears? Hodge? Ummuna? Darling?

I was going to post the same Telegraph article. Here's the damning evidence in one concise sentence from the article:

Because they are unmarried, each of them would be able to nominate different properties as their “primary residence” and so legitimately avoid Capital Gains Tax if one of them were sold.

Gulity as charged - along with the rest of the scumbags in the UK who co-habit.
Hang him from Tower bridge with half-and-half scarves before the whole nation is corrupted and damned.

Wrong bit. I was talking about inheritance tax.

Miliband on Andrew Marr right now. Marr trying his hardest to nail him down on figures, but Miliband is holding his own. Fair play to him, he's said they will reinstate the 50% tax rate, they need to cut spending, they are bringing in the Mansion Tax, and also said supported the cap on welfare spending - he wouldn't be drawn on the £26k figure though. Big talk on the NHS, but nothing really specific - more GPs, but that's easy to say.

They talked about the Conservatives and the strike law, and he said he didn't support that, which is hardly surprising given how he was voted Leader.

Marr raised the question about a deal with the SNP, and he just said he didn't have any plans for that.

I've got to say that every time I see him in a one on one interview, he comes across really well. He's pretty likeable, and his voice doesn't grate as much as I thought!

I watched it too but concluded that he's as evasive as any politician that I've ever seen. However, rather than not playing his hand for tactical reasons, I took his refusal to answer nearly all the questions he was asked (by a very gentle, supportive questioner who is himself, I believe, a member of the Labour Party) as a sign that he really doesn't know what he's talking about. I genuinely believe that he's a bit thick.

I think he's wonderful and should serve the labour party for many years.

hear hear and be sure to keep Hraman as deputy.

The dream team.

That would be nice, especially before even discussing the other four I named, let alone Blair (must be Labour's 2nd worst tax avoider of all after Hodge) or Brown (why don't the figures for his charity add up?).

The fact is that the last three leaders of the Labour Party all have serious questions to answer over the tax they pay, and all the more so when you judge it against what you might refer to as "Labour values". As I've said before though, when you put their hypocrisy on one side of the argument, and the fact that 'Labour' is a lovely-sounding proper noun on the other, the result is that Labour voters will still vote Labour.

As a Socialist Rasc, surely the Labour Party shouldn't be for you anyway?

In areas where it is a choice between Labour or the Tories then it is most definitely the lesser of two evils but I expect a lot of traditional labour voters to defect to the greens based on party policies, though a lot of floating voters will vote Labour due to the mess this government are making of the economy and public services (meals on wheels dropped by 63% under this government, the largest drop in wages in history, borrowing more than every Labour government in history)

Labour has no respect for other peoples money.

All the MPs convicted for fiddling expenses are Labour MPs.

nobody is naive enough to not think all parties have this going on.

You have missed the boat. They are back to old labour again.
that i will believe if after the election they get serious about tax evasion and set about to properly fund public services, and start to return services to public ownership (like the railways for instance)

If he was remotely bothered about tax evasion, beyond the sound bite level, why does he never take his party's own tax evaders to task?

What good cause did he spend the inheritance tax he himself didn't pay on his father's estate? Obviously, being so anti-evasion he must have been forced into not paying it against his will, so I'm sure he put the money to worthwhile use instad of just spending it on himself. Didn't he?
*avoidance not evasion.

One is legal. The other isn't.

I know. Look at what Labour politicians say about tax avoidance to get the point I'm making.

Edit: I see I did write evasion when I meant avoidance. You got me bang to rights there. I have no evidence on Labour MPs evading tax, but i stand by the point I'm making which is that many of them, very senior ones at that, avoid tax in ways that you have to be able to pay a lot of fees to get a specialist to help you with, and in ways that the average man on the street would consider to be 'wrong'. I absolutely stand by that point.

The problem politicians have is that if they spout outrage at companies such as Vodaphone and Amazon they really need to make sure their own affairs are in order, can't really justify avoiding tax themselves

What i find bizarre is that supposedly clever people don't think the actions they take to save a bit of money won't make them look a bit bloody hypocritical down the line, should we vote for someone who seems to lack any common sense?

Says a person who has written 4250 posts in just over 2 years compared to my 3396 posts in eight and a half years.

You are as profligate with your opinions as Labour is with other peoples money.

Just glad all these attacks on our services have been worthwhile and the deficit has been wiped out and not a whiff of any ministers taking directorships with companies that benefited from contracts awarded by committees they might have sat on

Shame that 'Jeffrey' has profligately racked up a national debt of 1.5 trillion to artificially manufacture a 'recovery' which all of us now have to pay for as the hammer falls and we return to the thirties with Captain 'running scared of electoral debates' Dave and first officer 'Jeffrey' at the helm.

Your delusion knows no bounds, its breathtaking in fact.
