Charlie Brooker's Election Wipe is on at 9pm tonight. On immigration:

He's a left-wing **** so expect a thinly-veiled attack on UKIP throughout.
Charlie Brooker is excellent.

Given the Tories record since 2010, this election should have been an open goal for Labour.

But they've blown it by losing their Scotland stronghold and choosing odd Ed instead of his brother.

Sheer incompetence.

If your definition of troll is someone that doesn't agree with you then you are correct Colin.

Had a bad week or something?

More than a few mods have been following this thread and we have several trolls on it that are either being dealt with or will probably be dealt with if they continue after the election.
Its your opinion, i don't agree with it but I'd defend you're right to it. Calling someone 'an obnoxious c***' is a bit naughty but I didn't complain. I'm still waiting a reply on my point yesterday.

Strange concept waiting for mods to explain themselves

you cvnt

My history degree has taught me that PR is very dangerous as combined with a bad recession it led to the rise of National Socialism and ultimately was a main cause of WWII.

Having said that, the current system is totally Labour-biased due to the boundaries issue. And speaking of national socialists it will be a travesty of democracy if the SNP have anything of a say on English issues.

And all along I thought it was the German feeling of oppression due to the Treaty of Versaille combined with economic hardships due to the Americans calling in their loans after their Depression and a wealthy elite in Germany who funded the Nazis due to the perceived threat of communism amongst the workers was the cause.

Funny to learn that all of that was bollocks and the actual cause of World War 2 was proportional representation.

One presume that we should all be starting combat training soon as Germany has used PR as its voting structure since 1945

Do you have a history degree which focused on Germany from 1918-45, or do you get your information from Wikipedia? I said a main cause, not the only cause.

Do you honestly think that you are better qualified to comment on the causes of WWII than I am?

How do you work that out?

The Tories and Labour are both forecast to get 32-36 % but the Tories will end up with 30+ more seats than Labour.

..... Just asking?
Hang on. I thought you'd just said Labour would get the most seats?
Totally different question SWP..... I think Labour could well get more seats.

Johnsonontheleft says that the boundary system currently benefits Labour, I was asking how he came to that conclusion, nothing to do with my comment.
Fair enough.

You're saying you don't trust the polls?

Had a really good week so far Sam. But I see a handful of posters making no attempt to contribute to this thread in any meaningful way but simply trying (unsuccessfully) be clever dicks. There's lots of views I don't agree with but I respect people's opinions when they express that view to the best of their ability rather than simply being sarcastic about others' responses.

I think that sort of behaviour just disrupts threads rather than enhances them. And as a mod that annoys me.

You ignored my reply on how much say Scotland should get in who governs the UK as they are hugely overweight at present (and I don't just mean fat).

I do wish people would stop saying I ignored their reply; can't reply to everything at once and sometimes don't read replies to my replies that need replying to.

Anyway it depends on what you mean by "should". A country of 6 million people deciding the election for 70 million people does seem somewhat unfair but that's only based on population. They're an economically strong member of the United Kingdom and the election is for the United Kingdom. A fluke of circumstance has put the election in their hands this time around but it wasn't that long ago that a similar population in Middle England decided the election.

It's the political system that we live in and starting to complain about it the day before the election seems a little late by my watch.

Just glad the campaign is finally over, the dullest in my memory. Just the same things being said by the same people every day. However I expect the results tomorrow night and the ensuing drama over the next few weeks will be the best in election history.

I'm sure they will be fair.

But it does make me laugh when some people say the left are in the minority in here when all the mods except de niro are left at this election.

To be fair though, they, mainly, keep their personal feelings out of mod decisions.

Actually I get my information from podcasts, books, videos and TV programme. Interestingly you again present two massive extremes and aren't smart enough to see that there are other options than the two you presented.

And personally I'd trust the BNP to write a better sourced and more accurate version of rise of Naziism than you, but this is just what happens when you carve yourself a reputation as somebody who shouldn't really be listened to because they're seen as a troll. Mainly for comments such as the above.

Are you a fan of PR?

Ps take it as a compliment when people say that about your missing replies. I couldn't give two hoots and hundreds of cunts and their thoughts in this forum. It means people value your input.

Nobody suggests the mods are right wing, only that the majority of the regular posters on political threads in the Cellar are.

I'm more of a fan of PR than I am of FPTP and highlighted the stupidity of the SNP/UKIP popular vote split in this thread somewhere a few hundred pages back. Specifically I think that the Germans have it correct and a mixed member proportional system is probably the best way to go in terms of representative democracy.

Honestly I absolutely could not believe that the FPTP vote succeed. Still to this day I have never read a single rational comment that argues that it is a better system for a representative democracy convincingly and can only sit bewildered thinking that there was a media spin

Has anyone on here actually changed their vote due to the various promises by the parties over the last month or so? From what I've seen on the thread, I can't remember any floating voters who were waiting to be swayed - or maybe they've just left the thread as it's descended into the normal Left v Right?
