It's all a bit stupid anyway and ignored horses for courses.
Many people will say fergie is the best ever but his son, Joe royle and others won back to back promotions. Dave bassat won promotions loads of times. George burley got newly promoted Ipswich into europe.
Nobody on that list would have been able to do any of those things.

Presumably they thought that winning 2 European cups with a "small club" outdid Paisley who managed what was then a juggernaut.

He led two provincial clubs to the league title, the second of them - Forest - with a team of rejects.

Brian Clough is the greatest British manager ever, IMHO.
