The Harry and Meghan fuss

Wedding took place in private before public ceremony.- Denied by the Archnishop of Canterbury.

Engagement interview with the BBC was rehearsed. - Denied by Mishal Hussein and Tony Hall.

Right but those aren’t lies are they? This is exactly what I’m talking about.

They had a mini ceremony in private in their garden where they gave personal vows in front of the Archbishop. That’s a fact no one denies.

The archbishop only clarified that technically the legal wedding was the big one - but neither Meghan nor Harry claimed the ceremony in the garden was the legally binding one.

So where is the lie? There isn’t one, but the tabloid press has manipulated both quotes to convince you one of them is a lie and one is a rebuttal.

I would put money on you never having heard the interview or read a transcript of what Meghan said in the interview, you have only decided it’s a lie because the Sun or Mail or whatever bilious shite you’ve ingested told you it was a lie.

For me this is the wider issue. I don’t really care about the Sussexes, but it is incredibly disturbing the extent to which large segments of the population are manipulated by the tabloids who exist only to fuel rage and profit off of it.

From the transcript.

Meghan: Right? Like this kind of stuff. It’s so, it’s so basic, but it’s really fulfilling. Just getting back down to basics. I was thinking about it — even at our wedding, you know, three days before our wedding, we got married .

Marriage is the legal or formally recognised Union of 2 people.

The statement is incorrect.

My primary source of information on the 2 issues I quoted is that “far right” BBC.

I get your issue with the media but not the unflinching support of these two.

“Bilious shite” I have ingested.
Don’t assume everyone looks at only one side of the issue.

Is that it...seriously?
I got married 2 days before the day we celebrate our anniversary. We celebrate the later date because that was the day that people attended. We were already married but it's simply no big deal.

SPOT ON. How easily the press can do it is the frightening thing.

Statement provided to the High Court by Markle proven to be a lie.

Completely fictitious conversation with a South African at the Lion King premiere, invented by Markle for the purposes of comparing her own wedding day to the release of Nelson Mandela.

Seems to be a pattern here. The Nelson Mandela story suggests some pretty big issues, and not just in relation to knowing what’s true and what isn’t.

It’s not just tabloids though is it? The population has access to her own media, podcasts, book and now Netflix series to base and form an opinion on.

It’s disingenuous but convenient to then blame a negative opinion of her and him for that matter solely on a section of the media you might not like.

They seek the limelight and financial reward that comes with it. They can accept the good and bad media attention and opinions of folk that comes with it as well.

Quite possibly the case. But there are other examples. I don’t accept that everything she says is true and that everything reported to the contrary is a lie. Or vice versa come to that.

But that’s not the whole transcript is it? You’ve cut out the bit where she says it was just an exchange of personal vows in front of the Archbishop which makes it abundantly clear she’s not claiming it was the official marriage.

So we are left with a choice.

Either we believe your version of events where Meghan Markle, for no reason whatsoever, randomly claims to have gotten legally married 3 days before their wedding.

OR she casually referred to exchanging personal vows in a ceremony administered by the Archbishop of Canterbury as “getting married” and didn’t think fucking weirdos would start looking up the legal definitions of “wedding” and “getting married” to try and claim she’s lying and out it in 16 page long special coverage in the Mail?

You keep pretending you’re looking at both sides of the story and aren’t lapping up right wing bullshit, but your posts betray you. All of your talking points are straight out of the tabloids, there’s no variance or deviation from that line which would imply you’ve arrived at a similar conclusion from looking at both sides independently.
