The Harry and Meghan fuss

But they’ve said nothing for years and it hasn’t reduced the media’s attention- in fact, the silence is making it worse

What harm would a statement from the Palace saying …

‘We would appreciate the spiteful and cruel abuse on Meghan by Media outlets to stop as we don’t condone this nor any racist misogynistic views and would highly appreciate the Media leave Harry and Meghan to get on with their lives’

What would be so bad about that ?

because they would have to make similar statements on a daily basis on multiple issues and then if they missed one issue, they would be castigated.
what would be the point and what would it achieve?

Doesn’t the response of the past 12 hours or so actually demonstrate that the palace doesn’t need to get involved in this sort of issue?

There’s been a sharp media reaction to the article, thousands of complaints made to the regulator, the article has been taken down and Clarkson will very likely lose the column for what he said.

Why does the King need to get involved when a response like this has already developed? Why would he effectively associate himself with someone else’s comments, or offer them a form of legitimacy by being forced to respond every time someone writes an article like this?

The King doesn’t need to respond and he’d be wise not to. He’s trying to reduce the media’s attention on the issue, not inflame it, although unfortunately this approach isn’t being followed on all sides.
You make some good points however…The palace have an ongoing relationship with the media and is it reasonable to expect them to wash there hands completely of the treatment that MM has had from very early in their marriage? Arguably this whole sorry saga might have been avoided if Harry hadn’t believed that his wife would be destroyed in very much the same way as his mother. On the one hand the press can continue their relationship with the Palace on the other hand they publish comments like Clarksons about a young woman who remains part of the Royal family. I believe a different more robust approach might have made a difference but I may be wrong. The whole media pile on of MM is obscene particularly when you think of how many press inches she gets vs Pr Andrew. And just for clarity, I’m not a massive H and M fan boy. I am pretty much supportive of the Royal family. I just think our media are at the heart of a great deal that Is wrong and sick in this country.

Maybe Clarkson was bullied at his public school, and now seeks his revenge........on a woman.
Says a lot when your own daughter deserts you publically.
Very well said btw.
Haha probably mate. The only good thing to come out of this is that Clarkson should now be pulled from every platform. He has, irredeemably, shown himself to be a misogynist; which takes a special kind of moral bankruptcy. Hopefully that's the end of him.

Because they probably realise that in the long run the best way to deal with articles like Clarkson’s - and all the other more tedious tittle tattle that surrounds their lives - is to just ignore it and don’t afford it a response. Personally I think that if the palace did respond to everything, then there would be many more articles published with many more obscure outlets looking to prompt a response and receive the publicity that would go with it.

Also, I would point out - as you would no doubt expect me to - that the King has sort of said that he would the two people in question to get on with their lives and be left in peace. He said as much in his speech after the Queen’s death, but a $100mn Netflix contract got in the way of that. And after two-plus years of reading stories fed to the press by ‘friends’ in California, he’s probably had his fill of it by now.

Again, I’m not trying to justify what Clarkson wrote as it was a very, very odd article. But I would think that the King’s pretty weary of it all by now and would suggest that this is a factor in it all as well.

You’re not a dad.
