By default I usually avoid reading this kind of stuff, but the furore surrounding it left me fascinated, so I'm ashamed to admit I'm a few chapters in.
The impression I'm left with, almost immediately, is that Harry was born a normal lad, and the institution he was brought up in has tried, futilely, to "de-normalise" him and make him another royal hologram. Simply put, his persona wasn't made for the Monarchy. Couple that with the appalling fate that befell his mother, and it's no surprise at all to me that he's doing what he's doing.
