The ''How The Hell Did We Lose That Game'' thread (26 years ago today..)

Several that come to mind have already been mentioned but, aside from those, our 2-3 loss to Fulham at the COMS was one of the most infuriating spectacles in recent times (a great example of "Typical City"). I'll never forget the elation of being 2-0 at halftime (especially after the Ireland curler) only to have to live through the smug grin on Bullard's ****ing Neanderthal face at the final whistle.

To make it even worse we had the Thaskin car shite after the game so had to wait an age to see the lap of honour....How times change.

0-1 v Boro was a bastard, they had no chances and how city like, that an own goal was the winner.

Always remember that game, my lad and his mate had popped out to get some chips and when they'd got back we were losing. They hadn't heard the Boro fans and thought, like everyone else, that they'd never score. 'Look at the scoreboard!'

Steve Cherry goal? And for 26 years and 1 day there was me thinking it was Gary Lund who scored ;)

Just thinking about that day again, I remember after getting back that night I ended up in the Steam House on Didsbury Road in Heaton Mersey with a few mates drowning my sorrows on Newquay Steam cider. Then just before chucking out time, I said I was going home to watch MOTD. My mate who had been at the game with me couldn't believe it - "Why the fuck do you want to rush home to watch us get beat?!!!" To this day, I don't quite know why I did it and there's not a chance I'd do such a thing these days.
Just testing!

That Steam House is flats now. Same thing happening to the Green End.

None of the games mentioned so far had any great historical importance attached to them even if we had won.

In my lifetime, and I've been watching the Blues since the mid 60's, our most significant loss was City versus Gordon Banks on April fools day in 1972.

Peeps, you wouldn't believe such a one sided game, with City being totally dominant and only (only, hah} one of the worlds greatest ever keepers pulling off world class save after world class save, would ultimately deny us the title of League Champions.

I know we lost, we let two goals in, and our form after that wasn't too great, but we would have beaten any other team by 5 or 6 goals that day if it wasn't for Gordon Banks.

If we had deservedly won that day, we would have been crowned champions, and, you know, even after all the years that have passed by since then, that day still irritates me when I think about it.
