I was in Tesco this morning on my way home from work, and there were people buying 30 pints of milk. I saw at least 3 trolley's piled up with milk. One had 5x 6 pints of semi-skimmed.

I’ve read on it quite a bit and spoken to several people, including family, around at the time.
People often stole from each other, trampled over each other to get into the underground, when the sirens went off and even the fire brigade looted.
That said, as we’ll never do, they didn’t give in to the terror.

I did a little shop in waitrose this morning and managed to get a basic shop. Other than bog roll and hand sanitizers I got everything we needed for the week.

Indeed. But even then, while most of the population were beyond fantastic back then, there were many who couldn’t deal with it. In London (I did a piece of coursework on this at A-level, which is strange because usually i never remember anything I learnt back then!) there was a huge problem with people drinking meths and living amongst the rubble of bombed houses. These people were classed as nuisances as all they did was drink bootlegged meths and robbed from people.Absolutely.
It’s a false idea that everyone was in it together and sang songs in the underground and shelters.
People did what humans will always do facing death, that did what they could to survive.
Not taking away from that generation. They refused to give in still, despite being bombed night after night and we owe them a great deal.
That’s why this panic buying doesn’t surprise me, however it needs to be said that this situation is nowhere near what the war generation went through.
People do need to fucking grow up here and stop it.
