The Independent Group

First poll including TIG

Con 38
Lab 26
TIG 14
LD 7

The only reason I mention that (it means little really at this stage) is because that would have been done when it was solely Labour defections, hence seeming to split the Labour vote. It'll be interesting to see the next one.

I can't see their local constituencies having them back. Soubry for one is hugely unpopular in hers.
Soubry has seen the writing on the wall from her own constituents, who want her out, so by joining this group
she thinks she may have a semblance of a chance of of keeping her seat. The problem this new independent group has is it comprises
of die hard remainers, if it had a 50/50 ish split, it may appeal across the spectrum, but to alienate the largest part
of the electorate before you've even started, doesn't bode well for its longevity.

I might be more inclined to vote for my local MP, if he wasn't a Labour MP. He has responded to emails and concerns swiftly but I wouldn't really fancy a Corbyn government. Not that my 1 vote would swing it either way

Depends on how much damage ERG and Momentum have done. People wanting by elections just want rid. This is all positive to me for as long as it lasts.
If they've really done that much damage you'll probably see a fairly detailed and wide approach from this lot as they try to become a viable third party. If not they'll just go for hard remain voters/MPs and work on the centre vote and try replace the DUP on holding the balance of power.

She's in an interesting position, small majority over Labour at her last election, but that was caused by a big swing from UKIP to Labour, if she can hold the majority of her own vote on a Remain platform she could actually increase her margin by pushing those 2017 Labour votes back to UKIP or the new Brexit party.
When you say unpopular in her constituency, I presume you mean among Tory members? If so their numbers are far too small to matter, it'll come down to non affiliate votes and whether she can insure enough of them.

Sorry, yes I meant in her constituency party.

At present it is all irrelevant, if a snap GE happened as a result of any more tory defection might dictate, under electoral commission rules unless they register as an actual party although this 11 could all stand as independants they would not be able to put up any candidates or campaign as an aligned group and so would not be able to put up any extra people.

It's disingenuous to say otherwise isn't it? They were elected because they were affiliated with Labour and stood by Labour policies and now they've said fuck it, they should be forced to stand again IMO.
Would you say the same applies to Coalition and C+S governments?
